Again this is for a favor for a friend...I need help grading and putting an insurance value for CGC purposes, thanks! There's lots of scans/photos. Is it worth it to grade this book with it being taped, etc? There's also a stamp on the last page...would this comic come back restored or what kind of label will it have?

The extremely amateur attempts at piece replacement and color touch will garner it a purple label. The amount of tape and that it seems to have discolored the paper beneath it will likely limit the grade to 1.5. I wouldn't think this book is worth slabbing, as the market for copies in this condition usually want to be able to read them anyway and aren't overly concerned about what CGC would grade the books.

I fully\agreed the book will come back purple label leave it as a reader copy give it 1.5 at least

Exactly what I was thinking.

 

With the color touch, staples replaced and pieces added, it would certainly get a RESTORED designation.

 

As you're asking about value, checking GPA real quick, I saw that a Universal (unrestored) copy of this book in Good (2.0) condition sold for about $370 just a few months ago... so that could give you a starting point to adjust accordingly.

 

There's nothing wrong with having this book slabbed as it will provide you with detailed information as to what was done with it as well as a perceived grade.
