Alamo City Comic Con

Its 5:00 am here in Austin. Just woke up, making it an early start and drive into SA. Im really pumped about this convention. I neglected to buy a ticket online to I will have to do walk up. I hope the lines won't be incredibly long. I'll be dressed in an "Captain Steve Rogers / Shield" type outfit if anyone sees me and wants to say hi!

Thanks for the report THB! Looks like quite a setup, with more large comic dealer tables/setups than even the Dallas shows. That's definitely promising.

I'll bet you're going to get slammed today with the Saturday crowds, so good luck and enjoy the show!

I can freely admit when I've been wrong and I must say I was wrong about this con.

There was a great crowd for a Friday and today will probably be slammed. This is what the Dallas shows could be if they would start using the Dallas Convention Center which is the largest in the country.

I took plenty of pictures too obviously and will do the same today.

You took pictures? I never would have guessed! lol

I'm excited to hear that this show was this good, and will be looking forward to reports and pics from Saturday.

Another quickie report. Arrived at 8:00 AM to help. Area was bustling with traffic already. The walk up crowd was amazing. When I left at 1:30 P.M. to go to my nephews wedding in Austin it was still snaking around the corner of the convention center. Last I heard they were about to cap single day tickets at that point. There was a Dead Wedding at 9:30 AM with the Bride, Groom and party dressed as zombies that took place in the main convention hall. A group of 80yr old tourists who were visiting the city were so intrigued they came over to see what the fuss was about. I walked them into the exhibit hall and took them to see where the stars were. They were quite giddy as one of them remarked. I was mostly a gopher for problems and crowd control but it was fun. Even though I am not a scheduled volunteer they did ask if I could help out again and I said sure. I am a bit happy myself to see the start of something that could grow to be a major con in this country and want to do my part to help. Heres an article with pics from the local rag......

More tomorrow. Must sleep before I head out again.

Real quick report from Saturday. I first want to Thank You to Anthony aka THB who generously hooked me up with a spare one day pass from Saturday! He saved me from spending a bit of money and as it turns out a whole lot of time waiting. After walking around the building a couple times I met up with him and he kindly presented with me with his extra GA wristband and showed me to an area where he said general admission will be lining up along side a line where VIP would enter. Apparently this was the same area that they used Friday. As 10:00 neared there were only 8 of us in the GA line while the VIP line stretched the length of the building. I kept telling myself that there HAS to be more GA than this and either I am in really good shape getting in or really bad shape as I recalled huge lines where people were still buying their tickets. Turned out the Gods were on my side and I walked in minutes after all the VIP entered.

The convention itself was great, made the rounds and commissioned a couple sketches from local artists. The crowd itself was huge but I met many first time convention goers. I would have done more but WW Austin is next month and didn't want to drain all my spending cash. I was disappointed that Rob Liefeld was only appearing Sunday and that Herb Trimpe had cancelled.

Overall I was very happy with the convention and am looking forward to next year!

I missed Saturday, but got a lot done today. Bought some books and got some cgc SS done.

Huge crowd today. Not a slow Sunday at all. Great con. Pretty sure it had as big or bigger a crowd than WW Austin last year.

I talked to a few boardies who had booths and both had great sales for the weekend.

Can't wait for next year!!

Adam west did NOT personalize until I asked him to write my dad's name. Pretty crazy eh?

I could tell you some horror stories about that man. Sigh. Mr. West and his manager were not fan friendly.

Ohh. Lovely pickups BTW!!!!

Now for Sunday Con reporting. I volunteered again and had a blast. The Con was packed for a Sunday. As I left the convention center at 2:45 they were still lining up to buy single day passes. I can tell you that from behind the scenes they were constantly trying to figure out ways to get people in faster. And they did a few on the spot innovations that seemed to help. Thanks to Apple and his staff for bringing their vision to fruition. There can only be bigger and better things ahead and I am personally excited at what the future holds for ACCC. They say pictures are worth a thousand words so here are some crowd shots and other things as I left the con around 1-1/2 hours ago. Not too many gratuitous cosplay shots as I am sure we have all seen plenty of those.

Awesome, thanks! Any word on dates for next year?

Nope. I think they want that weekend of Halloween every year and from what I heard they will have the whole center next year.
