I am hoping for a third Sherlock Holmes movie with RDJ! :wishluck:

I agree. Would love to see another great movie. :wishluck:

Maybe Rachel McAdams can play a long lost twin sister. It was a shame she exited the franchise the way she did. :(

If you think about it the last two Sherlock Holmes movies both did bigger box office then the last two X-men movies.

I wonder what that means? hm

IM3 is growing on me now. (thumbs u

Plus after trying to re-watch Superman III on HBO late night makes me fully understand that this is probably the worst Superhero movie for an A list hero of all time.

Superman III makes me not understand even more how any of you could possibly complain about Man of Steel. :baiting:

I will give Superman III some credit because the fight between Clark and dark Superman is actually not bad.

Not so much when you look at the entire franchise so far. And let's throw in "The Wolverine" just because of the relation to the "X" family.

  • X-Men (2000): $296,339,527 worldwide, 3.95 x production costs.

  • X2 (2003): $407,711,549 worldwide, 3.7 x production costs.

  • X-Men The Last Stand (2006): $459,359,555, 2.2 x production costs.

  • X-Men Origins Wolverine (2009): $373,062,864, 2.5 x production costs.

  • X-Men First Class (2011): $353,624,124, 2.21 x production costs.

  • The Wolverine (2013): $370,656,173, 3.1 x production costs.

It looks like any "X" movie seems to more than double any investment. Even the mess of "The Last Stand" follows this assumption. The challenge with "First Class" was at the time most of the actors were not A-listers to bring the money.

The Sherlock Holmes movies had tremendous star power with Robert Downey JR and Jude Law, a great director like Guy Ritchie, and characters that are over 100 years old. So SH1 earning 5.82 x and SH2 earning 4.4 x production costs makes a lot of sense. Oddly enough, neither follows the original material 100%. So that definitely didn't have an impact on the results.

If someone asked us 5 years ago what characters are more relevant to the mainstream box office Sherlock Holmes or X-Men?

Most would have picked X-Men. I find it amazing that both Sherlock Holmes movies beat the X-Men movies at the box office.

Either Sherlock Holmes got some mojo going that I underestimated or Robert Downey JR is a lot bigger star than I thought.

Another role he was made to star in. Even his focus on Wing Chun Kung Fu played into a really cool fight scene that demonstrated what a superior strategist Sherlock Holmes was supposed to be.

I loved those parts of the movie.

Saw it again last week. I would like to add (not sounding like a horny fanboy), Annette O'Toole was an absolute babe in that one.

This tells me that you have never seen Superman 4 or Batman & Robin.
