@Pat Calhoun I think you meant Leigh Brackett & Robert Schulz on the Ace D-36 cover above - which is just as nice a vice  - but here's some Whittington to whet the whistle...

 

I got shut out several times on this one in the past so glad to get a nice one in the fold.

I'd love to definitively figure out who the artists on the rest of the Phantoms are but only the George Gross ones are obvious.

well I was referencing d-wad's 'City Girl' as whit-schul, and left off mentioning Leigh as I assume all hail her as the amazing author of 'The Sword of Rhiannon'.

just for the record, some, including myself think Saunders and the Cimmerian make a good match, not to mention the two awesome 'halves' of the supreme D-36.

Just acquired the Ace version of "Master of the World". Published in 1961 in conjunction with the 1961 movie, which I have already located on You Tube.

All I can remember of the movie is his airship like a big boat sailing through the sky, but my morning paper route had the nasty habit of making me seek shuteye at the drive-in...so maybe missed something, too many eons to be sure...  And the paper route paid for my GA collection... I'll add with a click of the old mouse a salute to Price's 'cousin' across the pond, Christopher Lee.

To make the connection, I just got in these 2 vintage British PB takes on classic Zola stories - I'd never seen them before and couldn't pass them up at a cheap price.

There's a vitality to the cover art that I really like - and I don't usually like the non-realist stuff...

one of the reasons my comment on d-wad's 'City Girl' got obscured (don't blame the kief) is that this thread has gotten so darn busy by the time I posted topics had veered and even a page break (they do wonders for continuity). But the busyness of the thread is a very good thing, and I commend y'all. And it's not in vain: I picked up these two Aces recently after seeing OtherEric's (S) and frozentundraguy's (D) copies of them here...

I'm a big fan of the Dell mapbacks and airbrushed covers.

When I first bought these, I thought someone peeled off the lamination. I later learned from the Lyles Dell book that the first 96 books weren't laminated.

I've picked up a few recently that I don't believe I've posted. See You at the Morgue is #7. Tambay Gold is #20.

Jokes is one of the few non-mapbacks. It has a... Joke.

I don't collect softcore - except a few here and there that are JD related or just catch my fancy. I've wanted a copy of Love Addict ever since I believe @Westy Steve posted one. It's a killer JD/Drug book and by Robert Silverberg, one of my favorite authors (it's also the 1st Nightstand Book, so there's that too!)

 

And this one just made me think of Charlize, which is reason enough to buy it - even though I'm sure this book has nothing to do with the movie it sure has the aesthetic
