Custom comic book binding posted by boostergold

Well, I finally found the book that was alluding me. New Mutants #86. I wasn't about to over pay on eBay for this book. It could end up costing me $6-8 with shipping. I am a very patient person and found it last weekend at a comic store around 40 miles north of me for only $1. Now my New Mutants run is complete and ready for sending to the bindery.

I got permission to use these pictures in sharing with you what somebody else did with these books a long tome ago. Even though I wouldn't get these done now they still look kind of cool.

Enjoy.

Cool, might try this out! How important would you say the condition of the books that you use are (should I still look for presentable books or just get the cheapest duplicate beaters I can find)? Does it really matter at all once they get trimmed?

Obviously, these are meant to be read and I wouldn't be adding in high priced books, but the collector part in me would still want the best hardcover book possible ;)

VF books are usually my target, but for pricier books I'm willing to drop down to the FN range. The main thing is page quality. I'd rather have a little more beat up cover (the corners will get trimmed anyway) and nicer whiter pages than a great cover and cream/yellowing pages.

Also when possible the more books I can get from a same condition set the better... nothing worse than seeing a bind go back and forth between white and cream copies.

My rule of thumb is not to spend more than $8-10 on a book in a bind... And that's usually when there's a key/outlier in a run. Otherwise I look long and hard for someplace where a book or content is reprinted in a later (cheaper) issue.

I just did this with Werewolf by Night #32 & 33. I found them reprinted in the 2006 Moon Knight run #20. I have them ordered and waiting on them to be delivered. Also, for the MK run I found reprints of stories that were in the backs of the Hulk magazines. These all will be placed in front of the MK #1 from 1980 in the binding.

I also found a cheap reprint of New Mutants #98, UNXM #266, ASM #101 and 102, Marvel Graphic Novel #4 in comic book size, Reprints of Marvel SpotLight #5 - 10, and more.

When handling these books, and my other hard backs, I like to protect them from finger prints and dirt, so I use stretchable book covers. When school supplies go on sale you can find these for as low as 25 cents each. Some come with free book markers.

Here are some interesting books I found that somebody else did.

This one was done as normal and even had a dust cover make for it.

This one had the artwork done on the cover itself. Also, they added onto the front of the book reprints of UXMN #120 and 121.
