CC auction...

I'm not making any accusations, nor do I really care at the end of the day, just think the results were extremely high across the board. I don't know. Maybe that's just the way things are trending for GA.

Something's changed in the last year, but I don't think the Metro owners are behind it. I won one book in each of three auctions in a row between August of 2012 and March of 2013 (and thought the prices on most of the other books I was tracking were within reason). Since then, I've been the under-bidder on one book--nowhere close on most--and picked up zilch. It could be that one or two people with a lot of money have entered the GA market; I think new collectors tend to be more aggressive in terms of what they're willing to pay. As for a conspiracy theory...I suppose it could be that someone planning to bring a large GA collection to market is bidding other people up in order to inflate prices across the board. (Is there anybody, say down Virginia-way, who might try something like that?) I don't believe these high prices will last, which is why I plan to be a spectator unless one of my personal grails goes up on the block.

I typically win more at cc because I like their bidding format. Second most wins is heritage , again, bc they have "live" bidding. I love clink but win the fewest books there these days bc of the lack of extended bidding (unless it is that one "must have " book).

I rarely bid on or win anybing on eBay

I agree that the 3 minute add on forces a real auction battle. Both the books I won, (marvel mystery 5 and human torch 12 went way into "overtime". If I had been able to snipe I might have lost both.

I've always had to pay high from CC. And wait the longest for the books.

mycs has extended bidding also, they're the only other ones

Someone paid $2,100 for a Journey into Mystery #14 CGC 6.5. A $500 book at best.

Not any more.

It is a sought after cover, more of an outlier sale, but not totally surprising.

I think what might be the most valuable thing these houses (Heritage, Metro, CLink) own is their mailing list

They are able to get a captive audience of many well-off collectors into one room, and play their game

Mask Comics #2?? Someone wanted that really bad

No kidding! Last month on Heritage a CGC 4.0 went for $900! That book on CC was bid over $1400 days ago too. Ages ago 5.0's went just over $1100.

Also, the last few Mask #1's on HA that were 5.0 / 5.5 each went over $1500. I got this for less than a 3rd of them...
