It looks like Wonder Woman has now passed up The Dark Knight's revenue ratio record (5.5X vs. 5.4X). Although all the superhero movies this year so far have scored high.

Wonder Woman turned out to deliver at the International Box Office higher than was forecasted (+ $600K). Meanwhile, Homecoming is about to pass Guardians 2. Though the most profitable superhero movie this year is still Logan.

It looks like Logan, Guardians and Wonder Woman are still having little spurts of sales still coming in. You would think at this point Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital sales would eliminate any theater showings.

:news:Updated details :news:

The 1978 to present period in DC and Marvel-based productions is comprised of 86 movies. Looking at all included movies as a whole, they had a budget of $11,002,000,001 leading to a worldwide box office revenue total of $39,690,678,114 using USD from their given year of release and an average Revenue Ration total of 3.6X production budget. If adjusted for 2018 inflation, the overall worldwide box office revenue total is $45,840,597,789.

Some movies had a very limited cinema release (Captain America from 1990 mainly appeared in UK theaters and limited international markets), and three movies either were a total direct to video (DTV) release with one being a partial DTV. With the Wes Craven 'Swamp Thing' movie from 1982, it is very unclear what the true budget and box office results were noted for the time. Some sites like IMDb mistakenly reference numbers from 'The Return of Swamp Thing' and cannot confirm the results.

Three movies are still be actively screened worldwide (Avengers: Infinity War, The Black Panther and Deadpool 2).

Note: Movie budget and box office results were taken from either Box Office Mojo, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes or through researching interviews with creators that spoke to the final results (Roger Corman mentioning his total budget for 'The Fantastic Four' was one million dollars). In the case of 'The Fantastic Four' where Marvel purchased the movie for an additional few million dollars so as not to have it released to the public, this has not been included in the final analysis. %20really%3F%20Arad%22&f=false'>Los Angeles Magazine, March 2005

Amazing how Superman 1978 and Batman1989 have held their own all these years.

Two great timeless classics. (thumbsu

Looking at the first 6 films of the DCU with regards to worldwide box office and domestic home theater sales.

With the MCU the domestic home theater sales are massive. Especially with Disney repackaging all of these movies and over the past two years including a Bluray/Digital HD combination leading to repurchases. #TheMouseKnowsDiscSales.

WB/DC now at a combined $4.9B within the first 6 films. Also interesting the DCU and MCU both by their 5th film had a dip down from the early buildup with Captain America: The First Avenger only doing 2.6X and Justice League at 2.4X.

To me they were like new spins on superhero movies.

They just seemed fresh and different.

China certainly has become a key contributor to massive hits when it does decide to comes out and play at the box office.

Without China, it is interesting to see the overseas tally for the biggest international box office films.
