Here's my FF 1.

Back in the summer of 2016 I bought some silver age issues on eBay and got to talking to the seller. It was a woman and her son who were selling off their husband/father's collection after he had passed some years prior. After some back and forth, I flew out to Brooklyn to check it out. I met them at their upholstery store, went through a bunch of stuff, spent a ton, ate a slice of pizza and went back to the hotel. Flew back out the next morning. They had some nice stuff at favorable (but not crazy low) prices. Picked up a beater AF 15, an ASM 1, a bunch of other early silver and this FF group. Everything was eventually resold (got to feed the beast, can't buy more without selling), but I hung onto the FF 1 and maybe one or two others. Eventually graded out a 6.5 CR/OW and I still have it.

Wonderful copy, Andy!!!
Clean white area up top & good color strike!
I love it when an FF 1 does not have Marvel chipping.

Are they still unslabbed? Keep them that way.

95% of my collection is unslabbed. So much easier/better.

I slabbed most of my slab-worthy books already. But I prefer the raw look, which is why I often crop out the slabs or use pre-slab raw pix for my posts on these boards. Sometimes I miss out on bragging rights on a technical grade, but that's ok.  The slab assures me that I actually found what I was looking for without overpaying, but I prefer the raw look. For example, my SS#4 is a 9.6 W-pager, where small grade swings could make a huge difference in value.  But I often go a long time w/o looking at the slabbed versions of my books. So I agree with you about raws, except for expensive books to minimize the risk of surprises down the road.   Less of an issue with vets who can rely on their own grading skills, of course.

I'll guess the big back cover stain. CGC hates stains.

I thought that was reflection, but yes, that would do it. My kind of book. GOD BLESS...

After the 9.0 went for 1.x million, someone grabbed this one off the Exchange at the listed price of $350k.  Nice book!

Looks like it.  That was a 9.2 for $1.5M.  So a 9.0 must be like at least $750K now, since it was usually >2x 8.5.  Wowzers.
