It's a great copy -- was an 8.0 wp on Comiclink several years ago and went for a strong ($75k??) price.  Then it showed up as an 8.5, presumably after pressing or maybe a straight resub.

S = SCORE!

Just got this back from being graded a few weeks ago! Has some schmutz on the case (visible on Reed's shirt), but I'm happy with the grade. This is the first FF 1 I ever owned and recently got it back after placing it in a friend's collection 20 + years ago.

Nice! My first FF1 is in a friend’s collection as well. I should go visit it.

By "placing it in a friend's collection" do you mean you "sold it" to him 20 years ago and just bought it back?

That's correct! When I sold it to him, I mentioned that should he decide to sell it someday, I'd like first rights of refusal, at whatever price he put on it, which he agreed to. He made an enormous profit and I still got a decent purchase price. Win win.

The "prodigal slab" has returned.

Interesting comparison tonight on Heritage between a 5.0 and a 3.5.    Even CR/OW copies of FF #1  have been selling in the $8k-$10k/per point range over the past month (for the mid-to-low grade books that is....).     That 5.0 had it's problems but didn't seem that bad.    I think someone got a nice deal.

Here are the recent sales on Heritage in the 5 and below grades......

5/8:   3.5 OW/W = $27.6k,  1.8 OW/W = $18.7

5/1:  5.5 OW/W = $48k,  3.5 CR/OW = $26.4

4/24:  3.5 W = $33.6

Think the 5.0 suffered from a combo platter.

There are folks who don’t want C/OW in their Silver (even if they accept it in their gold).

There are folks who don’t like pieces missing from the front cover.

Finding two bidders who don’t care much about C/OW and ALSO don’t care much about that missing corner piece, who are ALSO in the market to drop $45k+ on a key that is suddenly available everywhere after three years of dry supply (my apologies for this last bit but it’s straight up my fault)…

I think that combo was tough to overcome.

(I obviously do care about this result since I have a Truckee Meadows 5.0 White in the June Signature, but I suspect that one will go somewhere in the $45-55k range barring major geopolitical or financial news.)

 Good points.    Your 5.0 is my kind of book....
