Popular Post Raze
Finally got a new EC! Ive always liked this but never really had a chance to get one in person. I found this at a local toy show which is always a fun time to go to. I bought this book from one dealer that I’ve dealt with in the past young guy very motivated to sell books. He also had a web of mysteries that he had as well and offered me a good price for both of them but the web of mysteries was not a book that I really wanted and it was also graded a .5 so I pass on getting both. But I brought home the one that matter. now to get it out of this stupid case… Larryw7, conan09279, grendelbo and 5 others

Once or twice is enough. Third time they get slabbed. It's a matter of personal choice, of course. With about 2K PCH and crime books, there are numerous books I haven't read in maybe 5-10 years or more. And with my 77 Y.O. memory, re-reading many of them is again a new experience. I've bought numerous slabs over the last few years, and all have been cracked open. I don't really care about investment value or strict preservation; the stories are my evening entertainment. hippiecop, adamstrange, Point Five and 5 others
Popular Post Robot Man
Every collector collects the way they want to. No right or wrong. I am also mostly a raw collector. The contents are every bit as important to me as the covers. I like having access to them. Even though I crack out many, I have a decent amount of slabbed books. Mostly books I buy for the cover only. With a slab you can admire a wonderful cover, nit picking condition but that is about it. A very short experience. But you just can’t sniff that fragrant order of a Church book through a slab… OtherEric, grendelbo, Raze and 2 others

Just bring your grade expectations down a little and up your budget a little. Cut down on your other buying. They certainly aren’t rare. This one is a bit of a unicorn though. One of the best, and iconic covers and a 9.8 Gaines. Hard to get more in demand than this one. Years ago (like 2010-2013) I had a personal rule that I would buy every $50 EC beater that ever came up for sale. Sadly, I let those go when I sold my collection in 2014/2015. Those same beaters are $200 beaters now. I still try and buy them, but not with the frequency I used to - and yeah, this time I ain’t parting with them.
