There must be a better way?

If someone wants to get an idea who owns a book (lets say Superman 32) then we can go to the CGC registry and go through set after set....

So the data is there.

And it is no secret.

So surely there must be a way tosearch by book and see who owns it - rather than searching by owner and see what he/she owns?

But so far I have only found the latter... and very timely manner possible.

Can that be true, and if so why insist that people use hours on such a search when it could easily be done in seconds?

By limiting the Registry search function by comic (e.g. Detective 27) issue, I guess it provides a modicum of Privacy to the owner. On the other hand, by the owner including said comic in his public Cgc (shrug) Registry, he is advertising that he has that comic.

If it was searchable by book I think the dynamic of the registry would change - today it's mostly people proud of their stuff competing for imaginary points  - a searchable database by book might turn it into a pseudo-marketplace.

Some registry owners might not appreciate inquiries about selling said books.

I have received an inquiry on a couple of books I have in my registry. I politely declined but was by no means offended. It was cool. In both cases it was basically along the lines of, "I noticed that you owned a copy of this book and was wondering if it might be available for sale."

I think it is all in how you word things.

That's one of the things we are doing with MySlabbedComics , there is an "Assign" function for every upload that allows the slab to be linked to the GCD(Grand Comics Database) and makes it searchable as well as providing the GCD info for the book. You can see all the Assigned books by Publisher or just do a general search to include all the books that are not assigned.

I don't see the difference. I have done it for a few books out of curiosity. It took an hour for each book to make a list of everyone who has a copy.

So the current setup doesn't prevent that at all...just makes it a bit time consuming.

Either this is no secret and there is no real reason not to make it searchable...or it is a secret and all sets should be obscured.
