True, but that wasn't the statement. None of those characters are great. Three of them are downright stupid.

When was the last time you read a Shazam comic book? The 1970s? :baiting:

Let me guess you never read the Power of Shazam series by Jerry Ordway or Jeff Smith's Monster Society of Evil?

I still have my copies of 'The Monster Society of Evil'. A fun little series. I also liked the Legends follow-up.

GREEN LANTERN Actor Mark Strong Is Reportedly In Talks To Play SHAZAM Villain Doctor Sivana

154973.jpg

Quote

We've known for a while now that Black Adam wouldn't be making an appearance in Shazam, which led to many fans wondering which DC baddie would take his place as the movie's main antagonist.

Now, The Wrap reports that it'll be Doctor Sivana, and none other than Mark Strong is in talks to play him.

In the comics, Doctor Thaddeus Bodog Sivana was introduced as a mad scientist-type villain who went on to become The Big red Cheese's arch nemesis. The more recent New 52 incarnation of the character turns to magic in an attempt to save his family, and winds up forming an alliance with Black Adam.  There's a pretty good chance that version will inform this big-screen take on Sivana.

According to Variety, Grace Fulton is in negotiations to re-team with Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg for New Line and DC Entertainment's Shazam movie.

The trade doesn't specify which character Fulton will play, but they do mention that it'll be "one of Batson’s friends," which has led to speculation that she may have been cast as a variation on Billy's sister, Mary Marvel.

A small group of Marvel fanatic sites took offense to Zachary Levi's excited statement about being selected as the 'original Captain Marvel', assuming this is a slight towards the MCU. Once again, James Gunn steps in.

James Gunn Agrees Shazam is ‘The Original Captain Marvel’

When news broke that Zachary Levi is playing DC Comics hero Shazam in David F. Sandberg's upcoming film some were surprised by Levi's claim that Shazam was the "original Captain Marvel." Now, one of Marvel Studios' directors is backing Levi's claim.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn isn't just a filmmaker. He's also a lifelong comics fan so when people began questioning Levi's comments, accusing the actor of either not understanding comics or disrespecting Marvel, Gunn had no trouble setting the record straight. Gunn took to Twitter to explain that Shazam really is the original Captain Marvel and that Levi’s comments weren’t meant to be negative. They are simply the facts of comic book history.

For those who still think Levi could be throwing shade at Marvel by bringing up this tidbit of comic book history, fans don't need to take Gunn's word for it. Levi has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He most recently appeared in Thor: Ragnarok as Fandral, one of the Asgardian soldiers the Warrior's Three.

Variety reports that Asher Angel will play young Billy Batson in Shazam. Angel is currently a star of the Dinsey Channel series Andi Mack.

In the comics (if you don't know), Billy Batson is a young orphan (a street-wise kid in modern version) who one day happens to discover an ancient wizard, who endows him with the powers of ancient heroes and gods (Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achiles, Mercury), in the form of the mystical hero known as "Shazam."

SHAZAM: Here's A First Look At Zachary Levi And Asher Angel Side By Side At the JUSTICE LEAGUE Premiere

iLOqoAM.png

Quote

The photo was originally shared on Instagram and featured a message from the Thor: Ragnarok actor about being cast as the iconic DC Comics superhero. "Hey, it’s Zachary Levi, and I just want to give a quick shout out to all of the fans of the DCEU, and say thank you so much for your love and support. I am out of my mind excited to play Shazam, and super excited to be here at the Justice League premiere. Hope y’all thoroughly enjoy the movie when it comes out, sending you all my love."

Shazam starts shooting early next year and more casting announcements should come our way very soon. Unfortunately, it will probably be a good 3 - 6 months until we get an official image of Shazam and that promises to be a very cool reveal. What do you guys think of this image of the two actors side by side?

And ten years from now when more characters have been introduced, give us a great live action Kingdom Come trilogy please!

Been saying it for years. That would be the smartest move DC could make.

'Shazam' Director Trolls Fans With First Poster Tease

UhvlJkc.png

Quote

It will be a while before fans get a look at Warner Bros. and DC Films' Shazam movie but that isn't stopping director David F. Sandberg from having fun with it.

Sandberg took to Instagram with a post from a Warner Bros. office loaded with posters based on DC Comics films, including Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and The LEGO Batman Movie. Between those posters is the Sandberg-designed Shazam poster featuring the titular hero's iconic red and yellow costume which will certainly serve as a wonderful placeholder until the real thing arrives.

If that costume looks familiar, it's certainly not because it looks like Shazam as fans know him from the pages of DC Comics books. Actually, it's because Sandberg previously trolled fans who were asking for a first look at the costume Zachary Levi will be wearing when the film rolls around.

Aside from some potentially big revenue losses for Warner Bros., Justice League's underperformance at the box office has thrown the continuance of the entire DC Films Universe into question. However, one DC movie director had the perfect response to claims that his film was no longer going to get made, thanks to Justice League.

The reply comes from Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg, who is currently working on WB/DC's Shazam movie, starring Chuck's Zachary Levi as the mystical superman, Shazam.

'Thor: Ragnarok' And 'Aquaman' Stunt Coordinator Headed To 'Shazam!'

The stunt coordinator behind the action-packed Thor: Ragnarok and the upcoming Aquaman is making the jump over to Shazam!, as reported by Omega Underground.

Kyle Gardiner, who most recently served as stunt coordinator on Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok and Warner Bros' upcoming DCEU production Aquaman, will oversee the stunts for New Line Cinema's Shazam! Gardiner has worked on some of Hollywood's recent big productions to shoot in Australia, including Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Kong: Skull Island and San Andreas.

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg recruited his Annabelle: Creation cinematographer Maxime Alexandre and production designer Jennifer Spence for the superhero fantasy, which stars Asher Angel as wayward teen Billy Batson, who is granted the powers of six ancient gods and heroes — Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achiles, Mercury — with the utterance of the word "Shazam," turning him into a grown and mystical superhero (played by Zachary Levi).
