Abandoned Comic Book Store

Let me preface this by saying, I would never intentionally break into or steal property that doesn't belong to me. And so I am not suggesting any such thing.

There is a comic book store down the street from me where I live now that I used to go to as a teenager. And about 5-7 years ago, the owner walked away from the store. Abandoned it. (It was really her husband's business, and when he passed the wife tried to continue running it at her advanced age and then finally could no longer keep it up).

I walk by it every time I walk to the grocery store and the windows still have old copies of comics that are slowly deteriorating from age in the shop windows. The interior is boarded up, but supposedly, the rumor goes, that the owner simply left all the comics inside. And it makes sense. After all, why leave all of those comics to deteriorate in the windows if you were pulling stuff out to clear?

I've stood in front of it just pondering what treasures exist in that place. Not even to sell!! Just how I would love to be let in to thumb through the thousands of back issues in hundreds of long boxes. To think in 7 years, how many comics even in dollar bins that we consider key issues.

Checking county ownership and tax records will tell you where the bills are being mailed and the last tax payer name.

Also pulling the deed from the recorder's website will tell you the current owner and perhaps contact address.

Then you won't have to break in, you may be able to just make a phone call.

She's been paying her insurance for 7 years just waiting for someone to break in and you won't even take the bait comics in the window, JEEZ!

My concept of time in my advancing years appears to be off.

It seems that it has only been abandoned for about 3 years.

I can take pics of the store front comics when I get home this evening.

It's not the old Comic Book Kingdom store on Harford Road, is it? Haven't been down that way in years, but I thought it closed up shop after Jake died, and that it was cleaned out of all inventory at least 10 years ago...

No. Its not Comic Book Kingdom! ;)

I took a look at the location on Google maps...just a bunch of plants in the window now! But once upon a time, there were some serious books in that store...

That store is where the vast majority of my 30 cent variants came from. Circa 1997 or 1998.

I think I found her. Looks like she's a licensed real estate agent (~60 y/o).

Contemplating how to approach this so she doesn't think I'm a nut case, which would be pretty true to form.

Simply state that you understand she was at one-time the proprietor of "such-and-such comics" and you would like to know if there was any stock left over from when the store closed.
