Abandoned Comic Book Store

It's not the old Comic Book Kingdom store on Harford Road, is it? Haven't been down that way in years, but I thought it closed up shop after Jake died, and that it was cleaned out of all inventory at least 10 years ago...

That store is where the vast majority of my 30 cent variants came from. Circa 1997 or 1998.

Jake and Ro! What a piece of work he was. I gather what was left of his inventory went to the usual suspects...?

I had a similar experience about two years ago.

A shop in West Hempstead closed suddenly, and sat empty for almost a year.

By talking to the shops next door, I was able to get the landlords phone number.

I contacted her, but she said the rent was being paid every month and as far as she was concerned, it could stay closed. She wouldn't give me the phone number of the person paying the checks. Strangely, the phone number for the shop was still active and would ring but no answering machine.

About three months later, I drive by and a photographers studio is there. I stopped by and he said the place was broom clean when he moved in. I asked next door and the guy didn't know anything.

There were two or three display cases,a couple of racks , and a couple of long boxes. It was a below average store, but I had dreams of getting everything for pennies on the dollar.

You should call now. Everyone reading this will be frantically searching for the store's location. lol

These stories are always better told in the past tense.

No story here. More fact than fiction.

Checking county ownership and tax records will tell you where the bills are being mailed and the last tax payer name.

Also pulling the deed from the recorder's website will tell you the current owner and perhaps contact address.

Then you won't have to break in, you may be able to just make a phone call.

+1

Came here to suggest just that. It's easy finding out who the property owner is, just takes a little time to find out.

Where in MD are you?

:roflmao:

My concept of time in my advancing years appears to be off.

It seems that it has only been abandoned for about 3 years.

I can take pics of the store front comics when I get home this evening.

It was storming last night on the way home and couldn't get a couple of pics until this morning.

No response to my email, and it looks like someone is moving things around in there (maybe??). But they haven't opened, and there's still a "Under Renovation sign" that's been up for at least 2 years since I moved there.

Maybe they're actually going to reopen the place?!

Do any of the comics look recent??

In the light of day, these don't look as bad as I remember. And as I say, It looks like some things were moved. But once again; old-age memory isn't the best.

There have been no announcements in the local papers/city/town websites of the place being reopened.

Well, if they sold the place off and are going to be opening up under new management with old stock, I be thrilled!!! If I can find out an open date, I may camp on the doorstep just to get a first shot at back issues.

In fact, I may have to put in an application to work there!!!

I can practically fall out of my front door and roll down steps, if I give a little English to the right, I roll into a bar & grille, and if I roll to the left, I'm in an LCS (almost).

The neighborhood has gotten really low on crime. I moved away about 12+ years ago when I got fed up with the vandalism. But I moved back about 2 years ago when it seemed like the police presence had been stepped-up nearly astronomically.

But yes. There are some VERY nice comics in the window. I could have sworn there was an old Batman & Robin comic and a large Nightwing poster there a few months ago, and I don't see it now.

is that an avengers 4 in the last pic?

Yep, you can see it dead center on the first pic. There's an X-Men 10 behind it.

Is it a #10? Looks like #1 to me.
