Abandoned Comic Book Store

I think that is a X men #1 as well and an Avengers 4 why the hell would you leave those in a window? Unless they are photocopies or something? And if they are real why has someone not cracked the window?

I call dibs on the Alex Ross poster in the 1st pic and the Dark Knight Rises issue in the 2nd

Good luck getting this figured out. Keep us posted

is that an avengers 4 in the last pic?

Yep, you can see it dead center on the first pic. There's an X-Men 10 behind it.

Is it a #10? Looks like #1 to me.

It's the Milestone edition of X1.

Assuming the Avenges is the GRR.

But still... Time capsule awesomeness

Or they're prints of the covers. hm

They looked like comic books from my close-up view. Unless they stuffed them with something else.

As someone posted earlier, maybe they're hoping someone will smash the window and rake in some insurance $$$.

The X-men is definitely a 1 and most definitely a reprint. Color behind Jean Grey is white and red in original. Looks green (like the reprint - Milestone or other) in this pic. Still cool to find out what's behind the door.

Even at home it's a great way to recycle old backing boards. Print a cover-scan on nice photo stock, spritz the board with some Elmer's spray adhesive, mount, trim and lean-display on any shelf. Instant eye-candy. :cloud9:

For creating a store window it should be a no-brainer.

Yes. But if you're going to mock-up comic books? Why a Hawkman from 1993 and a second series Wonder Woman #1 from 1987?

I don't know...But I find it interesting that I didn't get a bounce-back from the email that I sent. So evidently the email is a valid one (but maybe one that no one is checking....)

The Milestone Edition has a gray border. My guess would be the German reprint with the black lettering on top, instead of red. The Avengers #4 is probably the JC Penney reprint.

Those don't look like they have been in a store window very long. Sunlight would wash most of the color out in a few days. My store windows looked like if they weren't cleaned every few weeks. These are supposed to be years old?

:golfclap: It's stunning to think an X-Men 1 and Avengers 1 would be exposed to the outdoor light they way they are placed. That also supports the notion that the proprietor/custodian of those books doesn't know their value.

No one seems to have noticed that all those "comics" in the last picture look smaller than some others namely Amazon #1, Storm 1 (?) and Black Panther.

They look like those promo postcards to me. Or maybe they are indeed comics but those 3 I mentioned are oversized reproductions? Or maybe they're oversized omnibi? Amazon looks too thin to be an omnibus though.

Yep, I was seeing a bottom half that looked gray and thought it was a 10, but can see now it's a 1.

Is it just me or does there look to be a chunk out of the upper left of the A4? Could be a really low grade copy of a non-reprint.

Although I can't get my arms around why the Avengers 4 (and other books) is not more sun-faded, the "70 Years of Marvel Comics" poster came out around 2009/2010 and look at all the Watchmen posters -- the Watchmen movie came out in 2009. That seems to support the OP that the store was abandoned 3 years ago or so -- or, at the very least, the shop had not been cared for and updated with new posters, etc.

However, it looks like this may not be a front to a building that is facing the street. It looks to be an entry that likely is covered/blocks the sunlight. If they are blocked from taking any kind of direct sunlight, it's possible that they didn't fade much. You can see some of the items towards what looks to be the front that have faded, like the watchman poster on the back wall.

Why would any recent comic display have watchman, wolverine origin, or a toby maguire spiderman pic? I don't see anything recent in that window.

Topographically, the store front is set back in an alcove like a flat bottomed V. The doors to the shop are the bottom of the V. The two display windows are the arms. Not sure if this will display properly but for example:

Display window -> \__/ <-display window

double doors of shop^

There is also an awning over and in front of the whole alcove.

But it is facing south. So it should be getting maximum exposure (I would think). But the doors are far enough back that they always appear to be in perpetual darkness, or so it seems.

If you have the owner's information, at least email, then you probably know whether or not it is still the same woman that owned it previously. If she is a real estate agent, and you don't have her phone number, I'd stop in at a gas station or fast food joint and grab one of those real estate guides and see if you can find anyone with the same name. They have a contact number usually. Call her up and ask if she got your email.
