Not saying you're wrong, but those start to add up pretty fast

plus i didn't even include intangible assets

I don't think it is even close, DA hands down wins. The only reason there is any doubt is because the guy keeps secrets better than the CIA. Add 9.4 All-Star No. 3, plus all the other books in the pedigree which yielded it (we can all only dream of knowing what they are - 9.4 1st WW - wouldn't seem farfetched) and the fact that the guy has owned at various times some of the best OA in the hobby. My guess is that Fishler wouldn't think a second about a straight across trade with DA for his collection.

if you're talking money entire inventory vs entire inventory (OA Comic Art, Comics, Posters, Pulp Art, toys ect.) Fish and Metro win hands. They would blow dentist dave out of the water. I don't care if the MH Action 1 is a $10M book it does not matter.

If you have 50,000 comics worth 1,000 each that's 50,000,000.

...

He could sell that MH Action #1 for $10k and he'd probably be making money.

I'm not sure where you are getting these numbers but I suspect they are way off. Otherwise their offices in New York would have as much security as the Federal Reserve.

And someone will be along with the right number but supposedly he paid 25 K for it back in the day.

that was purely hypothetical, but they have thousands of comics worth thousands of dollars. They might not have 50,000 but have thousands of $2k and $3k books.

No they don't, see this which I've added above:

Looking at their website and sorting by price there are only about 1300 $1000+ books and you have to take out what's on consignment.

I'm not sure why this thread started off as The Dentist vs. Metro in a cage match but I'd prefer to stick to talking about collectors. As if Metro needs an even bigger ego.

their online inventory isn't mess compared to what they have in the back room. the online inventory of theirs probably makes up less than 50% of what on their floor or Fish has at home.

btw both these entities got into the hobby way back before comics were worth anything.

I find it comical people ask, "Do dentist's really make that kind of money?"

Dave's made more money selling and dealing in comics than hundreds of dentist would make in a zillion lifetimes. Just buying, flipping and trading comics. Plain and simple. Same goes for Fish.

But where are you getting this 50 million number or did you make it up? I doubt any 1000 dollar books are being used as coasters in the back room, more like a hundred copies of Richie Rich #311. Also let's separate the owner's collection if you want to talk about that from the dealer stock. At one time Chuck had 2 million comics and I hear about people buying 125,000 comic lots here and there so I doubt Metro has the largest garbage pile of comics in the world. Let's not start any legends...

I guess he has the dreaded '66 Ideal Batbelt MIB? The Mile High of all toys.

He definitely has that as well as the Ideal JLA/Batman playset.

I sold him the original paintings for a few of the Aurora Batman vehicles a few years ago (Batboat, Batcycle, etc)

those batbelts mint in box can go for like $16k to 20k. but i don't think they are all that "rare".

Do I think Metro has $50MM worth of assets in their office? Yes I think so. Even more than that to be quite honest.

I guess Harvard Business School no longer teaches the concept of real vs. nominal dollars.

CGC doesn't grade original art, movie posters, or Batmobiles for that matter. Comic book collections was the subject.

You probably distain seeing me respond at this point, but keep this up, you are gonna give yourself a coronary. No one is arguing with you. Just trying to set parameters, not going off of speculation. It takes time to hear back from people privvy to information on this kind of stuff, and then it can be answered.

My money is on DA honestly, his collection is vast and over a much longer period of time.

The purpose was to discuss who the owners are of the greatest collections, and perhaps how they got them, and how they stack up against each other.

And by collections I mean best comics...for instance top 100 or 500, but certainly not "who can fill the biggest landfill with drek".

..... don't remember where I read this but I recall something about Anderson coming from $$$$$ to begin with and some significant Real Estate holdings in the Northern Virginia area. GOD BLESS...

I didn't expect this thread to have 20 replies. I thought someone had come up with a great scan of the Allentown Detective 29 (the small one is a good start) and people were discussing that versus a Action #7 in 9.4 or 9.6 for the most valuable non-key

Instead people are arguing like it's comics general up in here.

We can read about comics everywhere on forum, but this thread now has really really nice info about pedigrees and past and present owners of some of the most important books and collections in the hobby (which for the most part tend to be GA). I'm enjoying it - keep sharing all these stories :)

I don't seem to have a scan of the Allentown Detective 29 :sorry:

Small one here:

http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3888366

Worth a shot to try archive.org for old versions of triksr4kids.com as well.

When was that graded?

Nothing that I could see on archive.org in the way of scans (of anything)

I thought all books graded got scanned by the CGC, is that the case?

There has definitely been a scan of it shown somewhere Rob.

I thought it was in the same Overstreet as the Allentown Cap #1, but it wasn't.

Ask Timely - maybe he directly posted it to the boards once?

I don't know what they do for internal consumption, but to have a book scanned by CGC is an extra fee.

That's why I was surprised that I didn't have a scan in my little archive. I know the book had been discussed and I'd seen it. It might just have been the 3/4 picture we saw in that other thread.

I'll ask.
