Original art.. what is the difference?

I bought a Ren & Stimpy cel from Bob Camp. I don't really care about the value, I'm just psyched to have something from the best cartoons ever (after the classic WBs of course).

I didnt spend a whole lotta time on this-my point is there are plenty of cels-authentic-that sell for cheap. And jsut because someone's asking $1000 doesnt mean they'll get it.

You started out by saying:

Cartoon cels as far as I know haven't been the target of forgery and would be difficult to fake. Also they don't sell for that much so I don't think it would be worth the effort.

And you're right in one sense. They aren't targets of forgery. However, like comic art, there are tons of reproductions which sell for next to nothing. You have to watch out for those, as they are pretty much worthless.

And actual production cels from popular films and shows do sell very well, many in the hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Apparently cels are forged-more reason not to buy em

Why doesnt it say that in the listing-it says production cel-are you saying that same cel is on ebay 50 times cause I;m not seeing it

OK... maybe not 50. I saw 8 of them. Just search for spider-man cel.

The person listing it doesn't say reproduction, but that's just because they don't know what they have. It's just like people selling Coke trays or other advertising junk that was reproduced in the last 20 years. Those sellers think they have an original 1930 tin sign. They usually don't.

I don't know enough about cels to really talk about this is my conclusion

Actually, when buying cels, the backgrounds are often times reproductions. Cells with the original backgrounds sell for a premium.

I suspect that Spidey has a repro background but is an original cel.
