I'm definitely not saying that I'm okay with the outcome, or proposed solution.

My options appear to be extremely limited, though...

I'd make sure everybody who even knows what a comic book is from here to Melbourne knows what they did and how they ":offered to make it right."

I dunno. I was half-thinking of getting of getting one of my Hulk 181's re-graded (it looks undergraded, and a press should help). Maybe slap Hugh Jackman's signature on there.

But....sending that in for a press would definitely cause some anxiety, lol.

Oh boy...I mean, you've proven CCS is an incompetent chop shop, why let them touch any of your books again, much less a 181????  There's a number of third-party pressers out there that do WAY better work and won't mangle your book.

I'd also protest a Hugh Jackman signature on that book, but that's a personal choice.

I don't disagree with anything you've said here. : )

As far as a Hugh Sig on a H181, I'm on the fence. I have a lot of H181s, and it would be just a little one of a kind thing in the collection for me.

The declared value of the book was $300  The buyback offer was $500.  This will not be credit.  We will be paying you this by check I believe.  Maybe CC.   We are just waiting for you to reply to the e-mail  That is $200 more than what is required.   Also,  all fees will be reversed.  We are sorry that this happened to your book.

The declared value is used to insure a collectible while it is at CGC’s facility. In addition, in the extremely rare event that a collectible is lost or damaged while at CGC’s facility, the submitter will be compensated based on the collectible’s current Fair Market Value (as defined below) in the condition in which it was received by CGC; provided that in no event will the compensation exceed the declared value listed by the submitter on the CGC Submission Form. It is therefore very important that the declared value listed by the submitter represent the collectible’s current fair market value.

In full disclosure, it is possible the e-mail said credit.  That is not going to be the case.  What I have typed above is what he will receive.  This is coming from the top.

I put in the value as what I paid for it the month before I sent it in. (Although, I thought it was $350).

I'm always unsure what to put in on a book's value when I send it in because I feel that RAW's aren't worth as much as graded (so me declaring that it was worth just as much as a graded 7.0 seems like a bad idea). Also, I thought that the smudge/stain had a chance to send it back with a purple label, or with a hidden defect that knocks it way under what I expected. So, I figured the best thing to do was just put in my purchase price.

While I would have "won out" on this one if it came back as a 7.0+ blue label, I don't see CGC refunding my money if I value something too high that comes back as a green or purple label. Again, I typically just put in my purchase price, and try not to get too fancy.

It DID say "CGC credit" in the email...but it's great that it no longer the case.

Follow up question - are you in any real need of the store credit?  Because this seems like one of those situations where, at risk of eating the loss in value between original and current condition, I'd go scorched earth on social media with this.  Facebook, Twitter, highway billboards, Instagram, etc.  CGC ruined your book and wants to lowball you in return.  Their lack of integrity should be put on full display for all to see.

As I posted in the TAT thread, CGC just offered me 75 bucks in store credit after losing my Hulk 340.  Im livid.

in no event will the compensation exceed the declared value listed by the submitter on the CGC Submission Form.

For anyone looking for closure on this one: Once I send the book back to them, they are crediting my account at roughly the value of what the last 4.5 sold for on GPA.

That's closure?  About $450 when that book was worth 2 to 3 times that before CGC did their thing

Does CGC have any comment on how this damage happened and what they will do to prevent damage like this in the future?

Nice work CGC

Way to put out a quality product

Debris, smudges, scratches....

WTF am I supposed to do with this?

@CGC Mike

What are customers like me supposed to do when CGC barfs on a book like this?   Can’t do a ME, because CGC can’t be trusted with the book again.   Good grief :pullhair:

I haven’t submitted in many moons.  Certainly not interested in running my  books through the current gauntlet.   Not sure I have the mental fortitude to accept this slab as is, but sending it back to the thunderdome to be fixed goes against my better judgment.

I've had the same thing happen and just sucked it up and said, no more
