I'm pretty harsh on CGC, but this is so bad, I'm inclined to think there must've been some kind of miscommunication somewhere. Even CGC can't be this slimy. Or can they?

Well, I guess I was wrong about this..

Idk how to feel about this. Seems like it could end up damaging the books. Is this normal? I don't submit super often. If they did end up fixing it for me would they press the book? Would that fix any possible damage?

Maybe I'm overreacting.20230412_201759.thumb.jpg.ff52ad51a5736449a0fe825adc738d18.jpg20230412_201755.thumb.jpg.eb42f49125e2e947a47ba50c217043f5.jpg20230412_201746.thumb.jpg.81be22d979bcbdf482c008f462f4f88d.jpg20230412_201743.thumb.jpg.e10c9adbe95a74f2df180248588b9ee4.jpg20230412_201739.thumb.jpg.3f1f0796d718b235835b6cd9f65e9b79.jpg20230412_201709.thumb.jpg.05e14c02ed4517d30a2ed6cca4515cbe.jpg20230412_201705.thumb.jpg.d95dcc72a57b5fec156c41ef8502d552.jpg20230412_201656.thumb.jpg.6e7713834362658d2eafd7911cb34a9f.jpg20230412_201650.thumb.jpg.097f0de748f562564da52efc4d271d1a.jpg

Unfortunately, it looks like the interiors have shifted independently of the cover.  Are there tears at the staples?

I don't have the book in hand right now as I sent it in for someone else, so I would have to take a closer look. But from what I remember the staples didn't appear to have torn the book.

I’m thinking it’s SCS, and the covers shifted post-slabbing

Looks like Shaken Comic Syndrome - I have had similar damage happen in the past, with the comic at least partially detached from the cover. I doubt CGC can fix the damage but they may give you a credit for the value of the comic if they determine the damage was their fault. I hate when bad things happen to good comics. :(

Only seeing this now, but Todd did a YouTube video advertising what books he would and would not sign.  Of which he said he would not sign books in which he did not work on the outside or inside cover.  Even if it was a Venom cover he wouldn't sign it despite being a co-creator of the character.  So it's funny that he signed this book.  Someone got into a polite back and forth with me on another forum about what Todd would and would not sign and I simply said that paid enough, Todd will sign anything.

There's a 14 day window, and the person has to be the submitter.  We will fix wrong label info anytime.  (the person doesn't have to be the submitter)

@CGC Mike Just want to make sure I understand CGC's policy on contamination and foreign material trapped in the holder.  Today I received a comic that I won in the latest Heritage signature auction.  It has one of the plastic shards inside the slab.  If I understand correctly, since I won the book at auction, I cannot have the comic reholdered as an ME submission because I was not the original submitter.  My only options are to see if Heritage will accept it as a return or to have it reholdered at my expense.  Is this correct?

Here's the video of Todd himself saying explicitly that he WOULD sign Venom comics because he created the character.  There are a few specific comics that he apparently won't sign, because Marvel went back and re-used art he had previously done without a new agreement, but this isn't that case.

Thank you, @CGC Mike.  I'm sure others have expressed their concerns on this matter, but I would suggest that you discuss this policy again with the management team at CGC.  When a defect is created during a manufacturing process, reputable companies will stand behind their product regardless of who currently owns the product.

I have discussed this in great detail with upper management.  For now, this is a firm decision.

Thank you, Mike.  As a long-time collector yourself, I'm sure this decision doesn't sit very well with you, but as an employee of CGC, I understand that you can only do what you can given the decisions made by upper management.  I will reach out to Heritage about either retuning the comic to Heritage as "defective" and requesting a refund or seeing if they will pay the fees for reholdering the comic.  Since this was a somewhat expensive comic, those fees will not be insignificant.
