CGC contacted me to ask me about the book since I submitted that book and got the 9.8 on it.

The book did NOT look like that when I subbed it. The book is obviously faded.

This is an image of the book shortly after it was encapsulated. It's a dead 9.8.

Thanks for the history on this.

Out of curiosity how long ago did you submit it / sell it? This must have been framed in someone's sun room.... Or displayed in the rear window of their car.

I remember you posting another high grade copy on the boards within the last year, but can't remember if it was this one (can't remember if it was a 9.8 or a 9.6).

Looks like someone thought the CGC cases were UV protection coated (shrug)

I've sold a few copies in 9.8 over the last two years. I sold this copy  almost two years ago so I have no idea what's happened since then. It's a shame but it happens.

Hey Roy;

With the now almost year long TAT's to get a book back from the boys over at CGC, a word of advice to you here................stop using those cheapo one hour martinizing cleaners and pressers with their discounted non-standard toxic cleaning materials or your book will end up looking like that faded copy on top long befoe it gets into the hands of a CGC grader.  :gossip:  lol

Clink should not be advertising this book like they did.  They should reach out to the consignor and CGC should regrade it.  The fact that it's being pushed as a 9.8 is disgusting it is clearly no longer a 9.8.

This is a true statement, however does it just end with sun fade? I know of quite a few books with SCS, pudding, and encapsulation defects that are no longer the same book submitted.

Perhaps CVA should branch out into a  CYA label.........

And that is why I haven't submitted anything for the last 3 years, QC is a joke and the label chasers are endless.

Posted this in CG last week, but forgot to join the club! I was not expecting to own this book. I was not looking to find this book. I didn't think I'd be able to afford a decent complete copy anytime soon. I'd gone to my LCS to pick up my holds and a couple of other books they'd put aside for me. I was checking out and happened to glance up at the wall, and saw this guy sitting there, at a price I couldn't ignore. It had been put up on the wall the day before, and I'm amazed it had lasted that long. It's beat, but it's complete with MCS, and has really nice colors for the grade. Really tickled to have one of these fall into my hands out of the blue like that.

9.8 label chaser...seen better 9.6's

Exactly.

I was thinking would I rather have a 9.8 like this (and I really don't mind offset covers like this) or a 9.4/9.6 with better centering? Probably the lower grades.

That production flaw/color rub near the word "Canadian" is pretty severe on this copy too.
