Bosco685
'Indiana Jones 5' to Begin Filming Next Year Quote It looks as though the director has now made up his mind. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg has lined up the Indiana Jones sequel as his next feature film, with West Side Story immediately following. The 71-year-old filmmaker is currently planning on shooting Indiana Jones 5 at some point in 2019, with the goal of releasing the film in 2020. Details on the project have been scarce to this point. As of now, all we know is that Spielberg is directing, David Koepp wrote the -script, and that Disney is planning to release the film in 2020. Outside of those three facts, everything else is in the dark. It's still unclear as to who will star in the film for Spielberg. Back in 2015, it was reported that the director had his eye on Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt for the lead role, where he would star opposite an aging Harrison Ford. There has been no indication as to whether or not Pratt could still make it work in 2019, seeing as how his schedule has continued to increase. With Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 rumored for a 2020 release, he could already have a full schedule in 2019.

Bosco685
Quote After a long development process, Steven Spielberg is handing the directing reins on “Indiana Jones 5” to another filmmaker for the first time in the franchise’s 39-year history, Variety has learned. Sources say, while a deal hasn’t closed, “Ford v Ferrari” director James Mangold is in talks to take the job. Mangold has been put in this situation before when he took over the “Wolverine” franchise; 2017’s “Logan” was a blockbuster, grossing $619 million globally, and earning Mangold an Oscar nomination for adapted screenplay. Spielberg will remain as a hands-on producer on “Indy 5.” According to a source close to the filmmaker, the decision to leave the director’s chair was entirely Spielberg’s, in a desire to pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story. Harrison Ford, meanwhile, is still on the project. The actor recently made headlines speaking about the future of the franchise while promoting his latest film, “The Call of the Wild.” He told “CBS Sunday Morning” this month that he was “going to start doing ‘Indiana Jones’ in about two months,” and then days later told HeyUGuys that the project is still facing “scheduling issues and a few -script things” and that “we’re determined to get it right before we get it made.” When Disney first announced the new “Indiana Jones” film in 2016, with Spielberg directing and Ford starring, the studio originally slated the film to open on July 19, 2019. Then it was pushed a year to July 10, 2020, and then delayed again to July 9, 2021, when Jonathan Kasdan (son of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” scribe Lawrence Kasdan) was brought on to take a pass on the -script after original screenwriter David Koepp left the project. I also remember telling fellow geeks who kept beating that drum that they were wrong. Chris Pratt is good at playing a "bro" (beligerent white male with little on the mind except beer, women, and fart jokes). He played that in Community, plays that as Star-Lord, and was a more mature version in Jurassic Park IV. Indiana Jones is not a bro. Indiana Jones is a schrewd gruff intellectual whose brilliant problem solving mind is his feature asset. That is Harrison Ford. Not Chris Pratt. @therealsilvermane
Maybe they should have had Chris Pratt play young Han Solo. Maybe Chris Pratt can also play a young Decker for a Blade Runner reboot...(sarcasm)... Edited May 26, 2020 by @therealsilvermane

If Lucasfilm wants to continue the Indiana Jones story, they'd do better I think to continue the story with his son or something. I thought that was the plan with Shia LeBouf. Either way, Chris Pratt as a younger Indiana Jones isn't good imo. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr. is an Ivy League Professor of Archaeology, a byronic hero with an understated wry sense of humor. That's Harrison Ford. If you want goofy beefcake bro, you get Chris Pratt. But that's not Indy.
