8 posts in this topic

Another "new" Comicon is coming this year to Iowa.

At Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center this November.

More details to come soon.

From the Facebook page:

On the 13 year anniversary, a new creation has risen from the ashes of experimentation. Sponsored by the Iowa Comic Book Club, The Midwest Comicon will create a stir in the epicenter of the U.S. This creation is sure to pack in 2 days of unforgettable fun!

Stay tuned for exciting guest announcements

Designed to be one of the largest family friendly comic conventions in the U.S., The Midwest Comicon truely is more than your average event.

The I-CON has been great the last two years I've attended for a smaller annual show. Hopefully this new incarnation will bring in some bigger names, though it does tend to get some love once in awhile… Jason Howard, Scott Lobdell, etc. Looking forward to see what they put together.

Looking forward to welcoming Jim Steranko, along with locals Ant Lucia, Phil Hester, and lots of Iowa talent! If you happen to swing by, say hello to J. Wright and Trey Baldwin as well - two of the best local artists IMO, but there are a lot of guys here doing original creator owned books on their own.

I'll be vending at the show and lots of work to do still. If you are going, let me know! Don't fly in for this one, but it's one of the better small-medium sized shows in our state for sure.

There are these little one day shows in various cities in the Midwest--

I go to the one in Moundsview MN (a suburb of Minneapolis) when I can.

It's a real small show that probably isn't worth a drive from Iowa though.

If you're already in the area though, I think its worth checking out.

Just reading through the thread again and saw this post. To clarify - the shows on that epguides website are primarily organized by a man named Alan who books the small shows - not affiliated with the MCC. Alan is a vendor at the Midwest Comicon as well, but this is a significantly larger event, with around 70 vendors & 100 artists this year.

If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend in Iowa, it is definitely that!

The video on that page has footage from last year. It's going to be pretty much like that but about 1.5x the size and now 2 days vs. 1.
