marvel studios is not sony. or really any other studio, for that matter. They seem to keep things close to the vest until they're absolutely certain that what they announce & what products are released match up perfectly.

Interesting read on cancelled Marvel projects. Not all Marvel Studio films, but if I recall the Thomas Jane Punisher sequel, Hulk sequel and Runaways film produced by Marvel Studios were all announced, then shelved.

Marvel is a movie studio, and they all do the same things. Generate buzz for their prospects, and if things don't pan out, they quietly get scrapped. It works like this from billion-dollar studios right down to the "producer" who is "casting" for his blockbuster indy film on IMDB.

They were all announced as "in development". None was ever given a release date. And only 1 was a Marvel Studios film (runaways, which is still in development but just on the backburner for them. Kevin Feige has mentioned this a few times). Inhumans has a release date. Marvel Studios doesn't scrap movies after giving them a release date. Sony and Fox and Lionsgate & Paramount might, but Marvel Studios doesn't. At least to this point. And until they give us evidence that they are willing to give a movie a release date & then scrap it, I will go with their record, which says "a marvel studios release date is as sure as you can get in hollywood to already having the movie in hand"

Additionally, the article is wrong since Gambit is still in development & has Channing Tatum attached now (which is 1 step further than it was when it was announced as "in development"). It never got scrapped. It was just really slow in development since Fox was screwing around with not knowing what to do with the franchise after the 1st Wolverine & Last Stand were critical failures.
