Fixed that for you based on today’s prices. My first copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 was $25.00 for a VF++ copy and my first Marvel Comics #1 and Detective comics #27 took some time payments but were in the single K’s range still for nice copies. Add to that all your high priced bronze books today like Hulk #181 were bought off the newsstand for cover price and I still have pages of original art by the likes of Kirby that cost 5 or 10 dollars in some cases for a page. Still actively buying since the comics field is large and you never seem to get enough dupes on some stuff but I’d think twice collecting from the ground up today. Very happy to causally add stuff and enjoy the likes of everyone here for their posts and comments which so far are free… Gotham Kid, batman_fan, Randall Dowling and 12 others

Popular Post drbanner
All you 49 and 50 YO's remember that you were 34 and 35 YOs when this thread started! As I recall, I started this thread because there was some sentiment that GA collectors were old fogies that were going to fade out of sight along with the GA treasures. Based on some of the new responses, looks like GA is still a young man's hobby. Miamiknight3434, Badger, Jayman and 4 others

There was serious talk a number of years ago that the pulps market was going to crash in the future because all the buyers were really old and once they were gone so would the market for them. Pulp collecting was in force even before the modern comic collecting was and add to the fact pulps no longer were being published to create new fans. Probably 15-20 years ago I had some exchanges with the late Robert Weinberg about how pulp prices were moving up on things like Brundage Weird Tales books. Well you can see where pulps are today. Still showing strong pricing even though a large number of those original collectors have passed. Betting against comics and related fields has been wrong for decades now. Corrections happen like everything else but they keep marching forward… Larryw7, Badger, batman_fan and 4 others

jimbo_7071
I'm 47, and when I went to a comic auction in person a few years ago, I was one of the youngest bidders. Some guys were around my age; not many were younger. I think @Detroit MIke was there. If he was who I think, then he might have been the only GA bidder there who was younger than I was (judging from his looks; I don't know his actual age). jimjum12
They're not so old that many of them still request coffins shaped like giant longboxes ... at least those who didn't blow all the funeral money on comics.
