5 Comic Book Concepts Primed to Follow 'Jurassic World's' Massive Success

With Jurassic World scoring the biggest opening in box office history this weekend, it would come as no surprise if other studios decided that they'd like a piece of that dino-action for themselves. As luck would have it, the comic book catalogs of Marvel and DC are well-placed to take advantage of the demand, offering dino-bounty ripe for the fast-tracking.

Devil Dinosaur (Marvel)

The War That Time Forgot (DC)

Ka-Zar (Marvel)

The Warlord (DC)

Timewalker (Valiant)

Like Guardians of the Galaxy enlightening Hollywood to the value of comic material such as Legion of Super-Heroes and what Green Lantern could deliver if handled correctly, what could come of dinosaurs that you would love to see?

I could see Cavewoman as a porno on par with those super hero porno parodies. hm

This movie was made for Kimmie K. Also, someone should give Mark Schultz a call.

how about Enormous
Enormous isn't dinosaurs, is it? More like gigantic monsters & bugs ala Godzilla. Things that would make a T-Rex wet itself.

My money is on Turok all day long.

The Turok video game in the 90s sold millions, and Turok is owned by DreamWorks.

Did not know he was owned be DW. hm I'm betting we see something turok related sooner then later.

Yep,they own Solar and Magnus as well.

Turok of the three though has been by far the most successful with mainstream because the Turok video game series has sold multi- millions.

This has got to be the most illogical statement ever concocted by man. The main reason Jurassic World is such a monstrous success is that it's a massive, big budget action movie that is NOT based on a comic book.

There is definite "superhero burnout" going on right now.

My kids felt the same way, and so did a lot of their friends on the run-up to the JW release. And while I'm a comic fan, even I'm burned out seeing CGI superheroes beat up CGI villains in movies of ever-decreasing quality. It was incredibly fun to watch a big budget spectacle where the characters didn't fly and wear spandex.

Jurassic World's success has nothing to do with superhero burnout. It's successful because they managed to do everything right.

-Most importantly, they managed to capture the essence and feel of the original Jurassic Park which was never present in the turds that were 2 and 3.

-Then, they did the most important thing of all, cast Chris Pratt in the lead role(Chris Pratt is quickly becoming this generations Harrison Ford.)

-Lastly, they did NOT make it a horror movie, but kept it as a much more family friendly thriller, not the formulaic, everyone dies one at a time horror trope.

Nostalgia, capturing the right tone, and casting the right actors. That's why the movie is so successful, and then timing the release to not compete with any other blockbusters. Very simple and straight forward.

I disagree totally, and I like comic books, but even I'm burned out. To say that is has "nothing" to do with it is insane, as that's exactly where my ticket money came from, as did many of my kid's friends.

Plus, your "reasons why Jurassic World was successful its first weekend" make absolutely no sense, as how are you supposed to judge quality if you've never seen the movie? Are you Kreskin? hm

After watching Avengers 2 (loved the original), I'm not paying any more cash for this level of non-entertainment.

You lasted longer than I did. (out of context thread! hey yo!)

I havent even gone to see Avengers 2 and have no desire too. I probably won't even rent it... I'll wait til its free on Netflix or something.

Avengers 2 was mind-numbingly bad (it was almost a cartoon) and after the horrible Iron Man 3, those two pretty well killed me for Marvel Studios.

I can count on one hand how many comic movies I've actually liked. And most of them are from years back (first Sin City, V for Vendetta, IM 1, The Dark Knight).

In fact, I may have just listed the 4 of them. GotG was okay but not something I'd really care to watch again.

You're so silly. But I appreciate your posts anyway.

Anyone that has been watching movies over the years realizes there is a spill-over effect across studios when one genre becomes a big hit. Others than try and jump on the coattails, assuming they will experience the same financial benefits based on market excitement from the first movie.

Hopefully that helps with your comprehension.

It's true, history is filled with such examples.

The success of Star Wars lead to Star Trek TMP, Battle beyond the stars, The Last Starfighter.

Jurassic Park lead to Carnosaur and other Dino themed knock-offs and the same can be said for movies still in production, for example The Abyss, Leviathan and Deep Star Six all under water thrillers all came out in the same year.

They definitely need to change up the Marvel movie formula. Marvel has had quiet a few forgettable movies in the past couple of years (Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and now Avengers 2.)

No more generic bad guy robots fighting superheroes, please!

I don't need any help, but you certainly do, as you obviously don't understand the history of this "follow the leader" trend, whereby 80% of these copies that appear a year+ later absolutely die at the box office.

The smart producers copy the soon-to-be-popular movies the minute they go into production, and foresee emerging trends, rather than following them.
