From a little earlier in the Western Comics run, issue #4. I'm not a Western fan but these are fun books. It's 1948 and the Vigilante has moved over from Action Comics to the pages of Western Comics and is now based out West instead of in the city. I also love the bullseye number on this book. This book also sports an unusually nice back cover ad that looks more like it belongs in Life Magazine than on the back of a funny book!!

Seems like the late forties early fifties were a nice era for DC covers. Different than the highlights of the Golden Age with the patriotism and WW2 era subject matter; the medium seemed to be maturing a bit. They still mostly avoid the word balloons which began to take over the covers in a few short years and sort of ruined the whole point of the cover illustration!
