But I have only been looking at issues 1-39 from the first series. I used to have some of these issues in bound remaindered volumes that made their way to Canada in the late 1970s/early 1980s. That was my first exposure to Captain Britain and Marvel UK reprint titles. I noticed that you had some for sale not too long ago. Man, I wished I had kept them. As a kid, I would remove the individual comics from the glue binding.

 

 

When I was doing some research on those bound volumes I came across one in a past auction (can't remember the auction house name) and it was the same one I had with Captain Britain 1 and 2 with the free gifts present and it looked in beautiful condition, I would have had a go at it if I had known.

When I saw your recent sales listing that included the bound volumes, that was the first time I had seen them in decades.

They don't turn up that often either, and when they do they are usually beat to hell.

My British stuff has been buried for 25+ years as I never really collected it, I really need to dig it all out sometime and grab some pics, maybe pack some of it a bit better too

Never really collected it? Wouldn't like to see them if you had?  Or should that be love to see them if you had?

I collected them as a kid, but once I found the originals, that was all I wanted, the only title I collected was Spider-Man as that was my favorite but as I got an original it replaced the British reprint in my collection and I wallpapered my first comic room walls and ceiling with the covers of the British Spiderman comics, I wish I still had a photo of that room, it was quite striking, or so I thought at the time, probably my most expensive wallpaper too 

Back in the day, I bought out of newspaper ads and sometimes a sale was all or nothing, so acquired lots as most kids had a mixture of British and US

The first 32 issues of MWOM was printed at Carlisle Web offset just over the way from me, we used to go over there and bundles of them were just laying around., obviously we just helped ourselves.

Afternoon 

I was at the London Comic Fair yesterday and had been mooching around for over an hour and a half when I spotted a box on the floor of a seller in the corner with Spider-Man Comics Weekly #1 sitting at the front. Bear in mind that the fair had been on for over an hour and a half at this point - plenty of time for the book to have been observed multiple times and snaffled. Anyway, my arm starts to move towards it and is promptly beaten by another arm which appears from behind me faster than a fast thing from fast town, fastville. The owner of said arm snaps up #1 and 2 in what looked like very nice condition for - wait for it - a pound each. I muttered something along the lines of "A POUND EACH!" and the seller shrugged and said they'd been there all day. 

You can't win em all, can you.

Anyway, as the gleeful new first issue owner made his lucky escape, I picked up issues 4 & 5 - Jack Lord only knows why he left them behind - for a bit of nostalgic reading. Here they be, both 5p:

 

They're nice, aren't they. I had a big run of SCW back when I was a kid - they were my introduction to Spidey, and I loved them.

A lot of people say they don't like the red coloured internal pages:

How could you not like that, even with that lousy grainy camerawork from me?

One of the good things was the comics were magazine sized, so everything was BIGGER. Again, look at this page and marvel at it (heh, heh):

As well as the interspersed alternative UK only covers, you would often get nice little bonuses inside like these:

The tokens can be an issue, with the old UK weeklies, often going missing in the same way that the US MVS's would and did:

Thor was boring, wasn't he. In the comics at least. I see thee nay and thrice nay, I hear you cry. 

Anyway, not the #1 & 2 that another 15 seconds would've secured me, but a fun trip down memory lane all the same - and all for two Alans.
