My thought is the show runners may have tried to make the show very political and FX wanted it to be a bit more subtle.

Aïda Mashaka Croal: Producer & Writer on Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, TURN: Washington's Spy.

Michael Green: Producer & Writer on American Gods, Gotham, Heroes, Smallville. Screenplay for Logan, Blade Runner 2049.

I'm not seeing the political influence. But with current events, anything is possible.

The long saga of the Y: The Last Man continues, as news has come in that FX's Y: The Last Man TV series adaptation has found a new showrunner. As THR reports, Eliza Clark will now oversee Y: The Last Man's development for FX.

Clark will be taking over original The Last Man showrunners Aida Croal and Michael Green, who left the series back in April. The pair posted a letter stating that FX "decided not to move forward with our series in its current form," and added that they hoped to make, "...a show that had something to say, in a time when things must be said." That kind of statement led to speculation about the sort of creative differences that may have occurred, and whether FX had canceled the series altogether. With Eliza Clark now being tapped, clearly FX still wants to move ahead with the show.

Eliza Clark comes with an impressive lineup of TV series under her belt, including writing credits on the TV adaptation of Australian crime/drama film Animal Kingdom, as well as AMC's murder-mystery import, The Killing. As you can see from that resume, she has experience taking established properties and turning them into compelling genre TV: Animal Kingdom is now in its fourth season on TNT; and The Killing was spared from early cancellation by Netflix, where it went on to run for four full seasons, as well. Both or good signs that Clark is the type of showrunner who can guide Y: The Last Man through the complete run of its story.

FX is already showing confidence in its new choice of showrunner. Here's what FX original programming president Nick Grad said in his statement:

"Eliza Clark is an enormously talented writer and producer whose ambitious vision for Y will only enhance the mystique and allure of this powerful story. We are thrilled to have her on board and partner with this stellar cast, Brian, Nina, Brad and Melina."

It's hard for me to see how you could do Y *without* its being really political.

Granted, I stopped reading it somewhere in the mid-30s and only picked it up again for the last half-dozen issues, but of the 40 or so issues I read the very concept  itself is political -- from the implications of a world without men to the Daughters of the Amazons to his mother's role as a high-ranking politician to discussions of abortion to the fact that he's pursued from the onset by the Israeli military (regardless of Alter's motivations by series' end).

I can see how a studio would have hesistations with the material, but apolitical it ain't.

And here we go......

The problem with making this damn series as per the 'book' was always going to be fear of treading on toes.

List of most definately offended people:

Israel (Burning down their own Synagogues for starters)  - plus much more like, oh, I dunno, invading the USA etc etc

Australia (Nation of Heroin users - plus not a hope in hell of using Aboriginal people - it's Australian Law that so many conditions need to be fufilled prior to filming Aboriginal people - including an on-screen message warning of their app on screen as it genuinely is regarded by some as taboo to see others on screen, especially if they have since died, or have deceased relations + recognition of peoples involved) - Beth #1

Cancer sufferers - self mastectomy will go over like a bag of cold sick to a lot of people with Breast Cancer (Daughters Of Amazon)

Heaps of lesbianism - some of which is crucial to the actual story

Animal rights

The Catholic Church - Beth #2

Plus this.

Y - The Last Man is what it is: To change it makes it something else, and like Preacher, will make it so much poorer. You can't just add a character to virtue signal or be a woke studio. Film it as written, or leave it for a bolder studio

Starting to think we will never get this show.

The only comic convention I have attended was Wizard World Chicago 2005.  At that convention, I talked to someone who told me that his friend (an established Hollywood writer) was getting the green light on a Y the Last Man movie.

It's been a long wait and may continue to be a long wait to see a movie/TV adaptation of Y the Last Man.

I'm fine with waiting as long as what is finally produced is high quality.

Y: The Last Man on FX Lands Ben Schnetzer for Leading Role

Quote

Earlier this month it was revealed that the TV adaptation of comic series Y: The Last Man had hit another bump in the road as its lead actor Barry Keoghan was no longer involved in the series. The Dunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer actor has been attached to the series since July of 2018 and the exact reason behind his exit is still unclear. The series has wasted no time in finding his replacement though as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Ben Schnetzer of Warcraft has been tapped to play Yorick Brown in the series. The role of Yorick is the only part that has been recast at this time.

The comic series from creators Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra has seen various attempts at adaptations come and go, with this most recent effort from FX seeming like the most promising. Once the series' cast had been revealed, it saw various changes in creative leadership, including a shift in showrunner. With the current incarnation of the series currently still in the scripting stage, the change in casting likely won't cause too many delays for the series which is still targeting a 2020 premiere.

Just spend some serious money and do it right or not bother...

On, off, on, off - series, Movie, series, transgendered characters, don't upset the religions or feminists....

Did anyone actually READ the content before giving the green light.

You have to tell 'Y' as it was written or it will be a bigger pile of poo than preacher or outcast.

I'd prefer they just cancelled it now, and wait for serious money and do it justice.

Timothy Hutton is no longer a part of the cast on FX’s long-gestating “Y: The Last Man,” the network confirmed on Wednesday.

Hutton’s exit comes as several cast members have been swapped now that the show is entering production. Olivia Thirlby has replaced Imogen Poots as Hero Brown, while Ashley Romans takes over the role of Agent 355 from Lashana Lynch.

Originally announced as a regular cast member, Hutton had been hired to play the President of the United States. Now, Paul Gross (“Due South”) has taken over the role, but it’s no longer as a series regular.

Y: The Last Man showrunner Eliza Clark reveals that production on season 1 has resumed with an image of her excitement to be back at work. Clark was hired as FX's Y: The Last Man's new showrunner in 2019 after the original duo of Aïda Mashaka Croal and Michael Green departed following "creative differences." Based on the Eisner and Hugo Award-winning graphic novels by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, the show will follow the same premise, following the titular hero, Yorick, seemingly the last male following a global androcide (in which all males die).

Clark inherited a trouble production after the original pilot was shot back in 2018 but was largely abandoned once Croal and Green left. Y: The Last Man suffered another setback when lead actor Barry Keoghan exited shortly after that, and the production delays only led to even more cast changes. But things began to move again in early 2020 after the show was moved to Hulu from FX. Sadly, the COVID shutdown caused production to be delayed several months, and the show was only able to begin shooting in October 2020 instead of April. But things now seem to be back on track.

If it doesn't happen now then I agree it will never happen.  A story about an all woman society after a virus attack seem right up the alley of the world today.

About time!

Quote

The last we heard about the highly-anticipated Y: The Last Man TV series, FX had debuted the official logo and teased the show during Disney Investor Day, but now we've actually got something from the show to look at. As noticed by Gizmodo, a new promotional reel for FX as a whole features just a few seconds of footage from the long awaited adaptation. Though brief, it's proof that something fans of the Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra comic series never thought would happen, this show is real! You can find the footage in the video below starting at the :24 second mark.

Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one cisgender man and his pet monkey. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better. The series stars Ben Schnetzer as Yorick Brown, Diane lane as Congresswoman Jennifer Brown, Ashley Romans as Agent 355, Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann, Olivia Thirlby as Hero Brown, Juliana Canfield as Beth DeVille, Marin Ireland as Nora Brady, Amber Tamblyn as Kimberly Cunningham, Elliot Fletcher as Sam Jordan, and Paul Gross as the US president.

Adapted from the Vertigo Comics series, the series has had a decades-long trek to being adapted into live-action. A film version of Y: The Last Man was in the works from 2007 to 2014, with FX developing a small-screen version of the project beginning in 2015. Michael Green and Aida Croal initially served as showrunners, with The Eternals and Dunkirk star Barry Koeghan initially set to play Yorick. FX parted ways with Green and Croal over "creative differences" in April of 2019, and Schnetzer was recast in the titular role in 2020. Production on the series was shut down in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but resumed filming in October of last year.

Jeez, thats from issue #1 - first 10 pages or so.

She shoots herself in the head.

They had 'video footage' of Y about 18 months ago.

Never.Going.To.Happen.

Not in any form resembling the comic anyway - be a bomb like Preacher.

Y offends just about everyone if they put their mind to it.

I'd imaging the self-mastectomies and torching of Synagogues will go down realy, really well. Not.

And that's some of the less controversial stuff.

Let Ampersand write it

He'd do a better job.

Seriously Yorick is Transgendered now?
