To be honest I thought he sucked as well as the entire movie. Not one bright spot in it.

I will never understand how David Ayer - the writer of Training Day - the bed so badly with a concept as rich as Suicide Squad, and how DC somehow let him get away with it.

'Suicide Squad 2' To Reportedly Draw From Fan-Favorite Comic Run

As it stands now, it appears James Gunn will be pulling inspiration from a comic run that should make long-time Suicide Squad readers happy. According to new reports, The Suicide Squad will primarily draw inspiration from John Ostrander and Kim Yales' seminal run of the late 1980s. Lasting over 60 issues, Ostrander and Yale were responsible for bringing the team into a more modern, post-Crisis on Infinite Earths world. Though featuring characters like Deadshot, Rick Flag, Bronze Tiger, and Plastique, Gunn's roster is set to go nearly as obscure as possible.

 

Earlier this week, reports stated Gunn was looking at forming a team consisting of Ratcatcher, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, and Peacemaker. That'd be in addition to Idris Elba replacing Will Smith as Deadshot and a reported return of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.

Disney Reinstates Director James Gunn For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’

Gunn’s return to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 got complicated when he signed on to write and direct the Suicide Squad sequel for Warner Bros and DC. Marvel Studios has agreed to commence production on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after Gunn completes Suicide Squad 2. Making the whole thing easier though was the fact that Marvel Studios never met with or considered any other director for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, despite speculation that Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi and Vicehelmer Adam McKay were in the mix.

 

Marvel Studios has remained mum on all details concerning Guardians of the Galaxy 3, as the Kevin Feige-led division turned its focus toward Captain Marveland Avengers: Endgame. Marvel this week set Destin Daniel Cretton to direct Shang-Chi.

Interesting. Especially after Feige came out with statements about how Gunn was not as plugged into the larger MCU plan as was rumored. Now they are willing to work around his WB/DC film to get him back.
