Why did WB allow Gordon to be changed for the new Batman movie? JK Simmons is great for that role. This is where the MCU is smarter - continuity between TV and movies.

The new Batman movie is part of a different continuity than the DCEU.

It's difficult at times for some that always gravitate back to a huge connected franchise where everything ties together cleanly. A true Multiverse franchise is about deviations and varying paths taken leading to altered characters and stories

Just with WB Marketing it does a horrible job making that point. Even after Jim Lee during DC Fandome addressed it wonderfully. You would think some savvy marketeer would have pounced on his explanation, and kept it going. Nope!

Batman franchise producer Michael E. Uslan confirms HBO Max will ignite the Bat-Signal for Batgirl later this year. The HBO Max Original movie from directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) and writer Christina Hodson (Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey) teams In the Heights newcomer Leslie Grace's caped crusader with Michael Keaton's Batman after his return in The Flash. Though WarnerMedia hasn't announced an exact release date, Uslan on Facebook teased Keaton's Batman returns (again) when Batgirl is streaming this December on HBO Max.

"And coming in November… and December…Michael Keaton Returns," Uslan wrote, attaching Keaton's shadowy photo of his Batman return believed to be from the set of Batgirl.

Keaton will first appear opposite Ezra Miller's Barry Allen in The Flash, in theaters November 4, before donning the cape and cowl again in Batgirl.

Even though Batgirl has yet to hit HBO Max, lead star Leslie Grace says that there are already talks about a potential Batgirl 2. Since the launch of the HBO-branded streaming service, Warner Bros. has begun to expand its DCEU properties onto the small screen while still tying it to the cinematic universe.

Following The Suicide Squad, John Cena got a Peacemaker spinoff series that scored a season 2 pick-up earlier this year. In addition to the DC TV shows with ties to the films, Warner Bros. is also producing original DCEU films for HBO Max, with Batgirl being one of them.

Longtime Warner Bros. executive Toby Emmerich is reportedly considering a theatrical release for Batgirl. The move, which would be a strategic change from the vision laid out by former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar, is being mulled in the larger context of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Kilar is out, and new CEO David Zaslav may be more amenable to such a change, since HBO Max was Kilar's top priority. Puck reports that Warner Bros. and other studios may also be re-examining their larger streaming strategies in the wake of huge stock losses by Netflix after a relatively small drop in subscribers last quarter.

Studios have been slow to fully embrace streaming, even rushing full-speed back to theaters in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The notion they would latch onto Netflix's market correction as justification for reversing course on some major streaming exclusives falls right in line with their traditional attitudes.

I wonder if the new leadership team will greenlight a theatrical release in addition to HBOMax?

Word is Zaslov wants many of these in theaters first before streaming so as not to disrupt their box office results.
