One freaky looking cover.  Love the tag line, "Always room for one more".

My Warren Pubs Key/Scarce "Hit List"

My list so far. Subjective for sure. I'm looking for opinions to add anything else. Call out any book not on here and why I might be interested in adding it. This is my current "goal" with key/scarce Warren books. I do have some of these already.

After Hours #1 (1957/1st Warren Publication)

Best of creepy paperback (1971)- novelty interest

Blazing Combat #1 (1965)-scarce, key

Blazing Combat Anthology (1978)-scarce?

Creepy #1 (1964)- key*

Creepy #32-scarce*

Dracula special (1972)- UK reprints, general interest, not sure if it's scarce*

Eerie #1 ashcan (1st printing)-rare

Eerie #1 ashcan (2nd printing)-rare*

Eerie Tales #1 (1959)*

Eerie #2-key*

Eerie #17-scarce

Eerie #23-classic cover*

Famous Monsters #1-key

Famous Monsters #26-Outer Limits, seems to be harder to find?

Heidi Saha (1973)-rare*

House of Horror (1978)-rare

Spacemen Yearbook (1965)-novelty interest but less common in grade?

Vampirella #1-key*

Vampirella #3-scarce

Vampirella Annual #1-key?

Vampirella Special (softcover)-scarce?

Vampirella Special (hardcover)-rare

Vampirella paperbacks (6 different)-novelty interest, scarcer in grade?

Weird Mysteries #1 (1959)

So this is my "hit list". Care to offer suggestions?

*= Got at least one copy in some condition

For some reason I’m not able to edit my original post anymore so I quoted it to update my list with the recent edition of Creepy #32 this week.

I’ve also added some non Warren books to that list since first posting since some tie into the history and development of the Warren and horror mag lines.

How about After Hours #4, which has an article by Forrest Ackerman (the first one I know of in a Warren magazine) which serves as a worthy precursor to FM #1. Also Creepy #4 which has a story that contains the "birth" of Uncle Creepy? And is Eerie Tales #1 a Warren mag? I can't find it anywhere in the Warren checklist I have...

I remember the first time I saw that cover. I'm pretty sure I bought a copy the next day.

If I get a copy of #1 I’d probably add #2-4 later. #1 is currently at the top. I know where to get a nice HG copy too but I’m currently swamped with other purchases.

Doesn't seem scarce.

I see. Well, it's actually not that scarce. But I think it has a lot of appeal to collectors because of the Frazetta cover and the Harlan Ellison story with Neal Adams art. And like many Warren mags, high grade copies are getting tougher to find...

I have a question I’d like to ask of some of the more knowledge collectors here. If I’m correct Creepy #32, Eerie #17 and Vampirella #3 are all known as scarce or harder to get than others. I remember someone noting that these where among the first to sell out in Warren’s back issue ads from the magazines. All bring a premium especially in grade.

My question is do they actually deserve the premium based on actual scarcity or is it assumed scarcity going back to Overstreet listing them as such?

I was thinking about this recently when someone on the boards asked about Conan #3 really being that much harder to find.

My own experience is I have zero problem finding copies of any of those 3 Warren issues I listed just like Conan #3 in grade. Nada. I can actually say it’s been more difficult finding a number of other books. The prices for those 3 are all over the place too. Given that the magazine market moves a lot slower with sales vs comics values the main reason I haven’t been jumping up and down to get copies right away is that (to me) there are much harder books to find even if they don’t have the same high and really great fluctuations in prices.

I love all 3 books covers but I’m just not seeing they are that hard to find in grade.
