To some hardcore fans, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is the greatest Batman movie ever made. The 1993 movie has only been available on VHS and DVD, but next month it’s getting the HD remaster on Blu-ray that it deserves!

Warner Archive announced on Twitter that the Batman: Mask of the Phantasm Blu-ray will be available “next month”, but no specific release date was given.

For those that like to collect their superhero movies and TV shows on digital instead of disc, Disney has re-released all its Marvel Studios films except for The Incredible Hulk as part of a blu-ray/Digital HD bundle.

The only MCU movie I was missing from my digital collection. Turns out Paramount owned the digital rights up to last year. If you went to VUDU and tried to buy a copy, it showed the movie belonging to Paramount Pictures - not Disney.

Disney's first 4K Blu-ray will be 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2'

Quote

At last, Disney is getting into Ultra HD movie releases. Fans of the studio's flicks have been stuck in 1080p for the last couple of years even as other studios have released 4K movies via streaming, downloads and disc. Now Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has confirmed on Facebook that his movie will be the first one from Disney released in 4K and HDR -- especially welcome thanks to the sharp image and vivid colors captured by using Red's Weapon 8K camera. According to Gunn, "4K UltraHD is almost certainly the best way you can see this movie at home - with more definition and the most vibrant colors possible on your home screen, and with the brightest brights and the blackest blacks. A being composed of light truly appears to be a being composed of light!"

This opens the door to Ultra HD releases of other Marvel movies, the Star Wars series (it's the perfect time for a release of the original trilogy without any updated CGI) and more.

Still nothing else on the other movies.

By the way, Disney has you register your digital movie at RedeemDigitalMovie.com instead of Disney Movie Anywhere (they are shutting this down now and transferring to MoviesAnywhere).

You are given the option of registering your movie at multiple sites, to include VUDU.

'Elvira: Mistress of the Dark' Finally Coming to Blu-ray

Elvira fans underwent a rollercoaster of emotions in 2017, with an announcement early in the year confirming that her film, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, was coming to Blu-ray in a set jam-packed with special features. Unfortunately, before the year was over, news broke that the set had been canceled, leaving fans to wonder if the film would ever get the HD treatment. The new year brings along with it some good news, with Arrow Video teasing that they're taking over production on the Blu-ray, which will be released before the end of the year.

The Blu-ray distributor's post was vague, merely confirming they would release not only Elvira's film but also 12 Monkeys, without specifying when the discs would be available or what special features could be found in either set. Hopefully Arrow can obtain the previously announced special features for their disc, which included a 100-minute documentary, multiple feature-length commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage and new interviews.

The movie was originally released in 1988, at the height of the character's popularity, with another movie being made in 2001. Cassandra Peterson, the actress behind the character, shared with ComicBook.com last year that she doesn't see another movie in store for the character.

"I go back and forth on that," Peterson confessed. "Honestly, I kind of feel like you can't reheat an old soufflé, and I wouldn't want to make another Elvira film if it didn't have the impact that the first one had, and that one has become a real cult classic."

Disney is finally starting to release Marvel movies in 4K, but there's a catch--they've been filming them up to this point almost entirely in 2K digital, so there's no way to take them to 4K like you can with films shot on traditional film stock like 16mm or 32mm.  So I don't think we'll ever see most of the current Disney movies in real 4K unless the studio has multiple copies they haven't revealed to date.  All of the current Disney Marvel movies are 2K upscaled to 4K, which means they're really just standard HD released in a 4K disc format.  Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the first big 4K release, but it's upscaled.

Supposedly Black Panther was shot in 3.4K, just shy of 4K quality but slightly lower.  So I assume in a few years they will all be shot in higher resolution.

The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension Steelbook

Quote
  • The video transfer is very good - no glaring issues
  • The audio transfer is likewise very good
  • The specials included on the Blu-ray are where this release shines:

Disc One (Blu-ray)

•Into the 8th Dimension (1080p; 2:08:16) is a superb in-depth piece that gets into almost picayune detail about everything from pre- production and casting to SFX and the film's release. Interviews abound in this well done documentary.

•Audio Commentary with Director W.D. Richter and Writer Earl Mac Rauch

•Audio Commentary with Michael and Dennis Okuda

Disc Two (DVD)

•Buckaroo Banzai Declassified Featurette (480i; 22:41) is a fun archival piece that features some good interviews.

•Alternate Opening (480p; 7:12)

•Deleted Scenes (480p; 14:11)

•New Jet Car Trailer (480p; 2:25)

•Theatrical Trailer (480p; 1:17)

Before Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, or any other of Marvel's television shows, there was Night Man, a show that debuted in the late 90s before closing up shop after two seasons.

Now — for fans wanting a little taste of nostalgia — the show is finally making it's way to home media release some twenty years later. Come June 12, Night Man will be available through Amazon in DVD format. UPDATE: The set is available to pre-order at Amazon for 31% off. Lock in that discount while you can. Night Man debuted in 1997 and ran for two seasons (44 episodes) until May 17, 1999. The show starred Matt McColm as the show's titular character, Johnny Domino.

The product description for the DVD reads as follows.

Based on the Marvel Comics Comic Book character, all 44 episodes of this legendary live-action series are available in this value-priced 9-disc collector's set - for the first time ever on DVD! One of Marvel's first forays into scripted television, paving the way for modern hits like "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," and "Iron Fist."

After renowned San Francisco saxophonist Johnny Domino is struck by lightning, he finds himself literally tuned to the wavelength of evil - and no longer able to sleep. Johnny becomes Night Man, and - in a bulletproof bodysuit that allows him to fly, see in the dark, and render himself invisible - fights to keep crime off his city's streets in this complete collection of adventures based on the comic created by Steve Englehart (who also wrote several episodes).

DVD for now. Can blu-ray be far behind?

A year and a half later this is still true today, virtually ALL Disney "4K" discs are 2K upscaled to 4K.  Including all of the latest and upcoming releases like Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.  Spider-Man: Homecoming was upscaled, but nobody's sure about Far From Home yet.  Just recently got a new 55" Samsung 4K HDR television and I can definitely tell the difference between the standard Disney upscaled 4K films and the native 4K films, which within the superhero genre are many of the Fox films.  Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse are true 4K and look clearly better.  Unfortunately Deadpool 2 is upscaled.

A few things. They don't film these in 2K. They output them using a lower digital Intermediate. They tend to shoot them at 3.4 or higher. Endgame used a custom 6K camera. X-Men: Apocalypse used a 6K camera.

But its doubtful you will see all these in full 4K for a long time. Most movies with a lot of CG shots will be below 4K because the final render time and space of the VFX on these movies. Greatly adding to the cost and time.

That said there are still many improvements to the standard HD blue rays. Most notably HDR (DV HDR+)color space and compression. Detail is also still an improvement.

Even X-Men Apocalypse had CG shots output at 2K.

Depending on the transfer and skill of those working on the transfer + camera used, some movies will have see a stronger detail improvement than others. Avengers is a strong upgrade from the blu ray. Batman Begins, not so much.

Aquaman and John Wick 2 UHD's while output at 2K look amazing and crush the Blue rays.

Not a comic book film (though it feels like one). Definitely has come out on bluray already. But now with this release it sounds even more interesting to comic book nuts that can appreciate this film.

Filmmaker John Carpenter might be most known for his straightforward horror endeavors like Halloween, The Fog, or Prince of Darkness, but the director often blends various elements from a number of genres to create entirely unique experiences. For instance, one of Carpenter's most beloved films is the Kurt Russell-starring Big Trouble in Little China, which blends elements of fantasy, action, comedy, and even some horror, resulting in a film well-deserving of its cult status. While the film is currently available on Blu-ray, Scream Factory is set to debut an all-new Blu-ray of the film, which comes with a staggering number of all-new special features.

Kurt Russell stars as Jack Burton, a tough-talking truck driver whose life goes into a supernatural tailspin when his best friend's fiancée is kidnapped in John Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China. Jack suddenly finds himself in a murky, danger-filled world beneath San Francisco's Chinatown, where Lo Pan, a 2,000-year-old magician, mercilessly rules an empire of spirits. Facing down a host of unearthly terrors, Jack battles through Lo Pan's dark domain in a full-throttle, action-riddled ride to rescue the girl. Also starring James Hong, Kim Cattrall and Dennis Dun, this special effects-filled spectacle is a non-stop thrill ride to an incredible finish!

Though not a comic book films, still a wild production that probably influenced more than a few creators.
