JAMES BOND: NO TIME TO DIE starring Daniel Craig (2021)

I guess there isn't a summer slot? Or they are just hoping for things to be more under control in November? I really hope the movie is worth all these delays. And even if not, the producers should be working on plans for the next one with all this extra time. Now that they have 11 extra months. No Time to Die's marketing is essentially already set. The only thing that was left I think were the usual press tour interviews and main poster. I was seeing quick commercials everywhere for the movie. So the marketing will just be restarted around October.

I think the studio is hoping for the film to be worth all the delay, as Paramount had to have assessed the delay was going to cost it $30M to $50M with marketing changes, restacking theater space, etc. That had to be a tough call, but the right one with coronavirus threatening attendance (and potential health) with any attendance in the original spot.

I'm sure the movie will make a lot with people showing up normally. It is Daniel Craig's real final movie. And the movie most likely before a reboot. The movie probably won't make Skyfall money. I still don't get how that happened. I don't hate Skyfall completely but I'll never watch it in full again. And No Time to Die is a sequel to a movie that I think many are mixed on.

I would have been fine with Daniel Craig leaving with Spectre. No need for an additional twist. That's like the last resort of people without good ideas. I would bet that looking at Spectre, that there is no hint or clue about this twist. Kind of like how the hints of the twist in Spectre are no where in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, or Skyfall.

The James Bond movie producers would bring back No Time to Die director Cary Fukunaga to helm another film. As the franchise's Daniel Craig era is prolonged a bit due to multiple pandemic-forced release date delays, there's plenty of speculation concerning the future of the long-running action series. Of course, much of that discussion is in regards to who will follow Craig as 007, with Tom Hardy and Harry Styles being at the center of recent (unsubstantiated) rumors. In addition to who will star, viewers are always interested in learning who will direct the next Bond film, since the franchise tends to see a revolving door of talented filmmakers.

Fukunaga wasn't the original choice to make the movie that became No Time to Die. At one point, Danny Boyle was set to direct Bond 25, but he left the project due to creative differences. Fukunaga stepped in as replacement, and audiences are still waiting to see what he delivered. No Time to Die was supposed to come out this past April, but it's since been pushed back to April 2021 due to the pandemic. It'll be some time before viewers get to judge No Time to Die for themselves, but the 007 producers like what they've seen.

Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Bond producer Michael G. Wilson stated, "He's certainly someone we'll work with again," when talking about Fukunaga. Barbara Broccoli echoed those sentiments with her own praise:

"He far exceeded anyone’s expectations. He’s made probably one of the best Bond films ever…. He’s delivered a film on an epic scale, but it also has a tremendous, tremendous intimacy…. It’s a classic Bond movie but also a Cary Fukunaga film."

Apple May Be Seeking to Acquire Bond Film 'No Time to Die' for Apple TV+

Quote

Film critic and screenwriter Drew McWeeny has postulated on Twitter that Apple is seeking to acquire the rights to upcoming James Bond film "No Time to Die" for its video streaming service, Apple TV+.

McWeeny, who has clear industry connections, suggested that ‌Apple TV‌+ and Netflix are the frontrunners to possibly stream the new film, speculating that the bids involved are for significant amounts of money.

Apple has previously acquired the rights to films that would have premiered in the cinema, such as Tom Hanks' World War Two movie "Greyhound." Considering the purported success of the war film on ‌Apple TV‌+, it does not seem out of the question that Apple could be actively seeking to exclusively screen the upcoming Bond film in an effort to drive subscription numbers.

No Time to Die is one of the most hotly anticipated James Bond films, featuring Daniel Craig's last outing as the titular character. After multiple delays releasing the film due to the global health crisis, it seems likely that studio MGM may be looking for viable alternative means of screening the film, namely streaming. It is also notable that Apple was reported to have entered talks to acquire MGM outright earlier this year.

This is great news! AppleTV has a weak selection but they are the new kid on the block with only a year since launch. They need this and they know they need it. They definitely have the cash. And unlike Disney, they should launch it like they did with Greyhound. If you are a subscriber at $4.99 a month, you got Greyhound at no extra charge. Bond on AppleTV would bring in subscribers. People would subscribe for one month only at five bucks just to stream this and that would still be a killer deal. They would probably cancel right after though.

Apple, Netflix and other streaming services explored the possibility of acquiring “No Time to Die,” the upcoming James Bond movie that was originally slated to debut last April. The film’s release has been postponed multiple times, with the Daniel Craig vehicle moving back to November before being pushed into 2021 as the number of coronavirus cases exploded.

MGM, the studio behind the film, reportedly lost between $30 million to $50 million due to the delays, insiders said. Insiders at the studio insist the Bond sequel is not for sale. Bloomberg first reported the discussions, which have been the topic du jour in Hollywood this week. Other studios, such as Paramount and Sony, have raked in tens of millions by selling movies like “Greyhound,” “Coming 2 America” and “Without Remorse” to streaming services while the exhibition sector continues to struggle during the pandemic.

However, multiple insiders at rival studios and companies said that a possible Bond sale was explored overtly, and believe that MGM was at least open to the possibility of unloading their crown jewel for a princely sum. The studio was said to be looking for a deal of roughly $600 million — a price tag that was deemed too rich for two of the free-spending streaming services.

It’s unclear if producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who control the rights to the series through their company Eon, would have to sign off on the deal. Universal Pictures, which has foreign distribution rights to “No Time to Die,” would have to be made whole in any possible sale and reimbursed for any expenses the studio incurred. MGM’s decision to move “No Time to Die” to April 2, 2021 previously ruffled some feathers at Universal, because the move forced the studio to immediately alter its plans to release “F9” on the same date. Universal pushed the pricey sequel to May 28, 2021 after Bond was delayed.
