Jason David Frank Delivers a Bloody Teaser for Ninjak vs. The Valiant Universe

You may have grown up watching Jason David Frank morphing into the Green Ranger, but now he’s suiting up as Bloodshot, one of the premiere characters in the Valiant Comics universe. As Bloodshot's origin goes, Ray Garrison was infused with nanotechnology, making him an elite soldier who can heal from lethal wounds, and there’s also the matter of being reprogrammed to be a soulless killing machine by the shadowy organization that did this to him. So basically he’s Wolverine with guns instead of claws.

Bloodshot will be joining his fellow Valiant heroes -- including Livewire, X-O Manowar, and Eternal Warrior -- in a digital web series where they’ll all be pitted against Ninjak, a British ninja spy with some serious skills of his own. Titled Ninjak vs. The Valiant Universe, it will introduce these characters in live-action for the first time. There are also Valiant superhero movies in the works (although they are unconnected to this upcoming web series), so this project aims to whet people's appetites until then.

Watch the Bloodshot-centric teaser above, with an introduction from Frank, then keep an eye out for the full trailer hitting on August 28, where we will also learn when and on what service the series will debut.

5 days came and went. I wonder what happened to the big Ninjak news?

(shrug)

Something unexpected for sure.  Valiant said something on Twitter about it being a few more weeks. Hurricane Harvey? (shrug)

Oh man. I hope nobody was impacted directly by that mess.

Valiant Releases First look at Live-Action X-O Manowar in Costume

The live-action version of Valiant's comic universe is on the way, and the first look at the company's biggest character is finally here.

On Tuesday, Dinesh Shamdasani, CEO and chief creative officer at Valiant Entertainment, tweeted out the first photo of Derek Theler (Baby Daddy) as the ever-popular X-O Manowar. Just one look at the photo and comic readers can tell that this casting was just about as spot-on as it could be.

One look at Theler in costume and comic readers know just how accurate the costume design is. From the tattered metal on his shoulders, to the light-sword being held in his hand, Theler's Manowar looks like it was pulled straight out of the pages of Valiant's comics.

Theler is set to play the Viking warrior-turned-alien space knight in the upcoming series, Ninjak Vs. the Valiant Universe, which has long-been set to release online some time in 2017. As we inch closer and closer to 2018 however, that doesn't seem likely. However, in responding to one fan on Twitter, Shamdasani said that it will be released "Soon."

With 2017 behind us, the Newsarama staff put together an ordered list of all the comic book shows debuting in 2018, ordered by how much we're anticipating them. We're not including already-debuted shows, as well as some that have dropped off the radar like New Warriors. Let's stick to what we think has a good chance of showing up.

We made our rankings based on a poll of the entire 'Rama team, ordering them based on a distillation of our personal lists.

5. Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe

Last New York Comic-Con, Valiant released the teaser trailer for Ninjak vs. The Valiant Universe, produced by Bat In The Sun (which produces the Superpower Beatdown videos) and Valiant Digital. It was intended as an introduction to the Valiant Universe for new fans by focusing Ninjak as the central focus, but also having him interact with other Valiant characters.

It stars Michael Rowe as Colin King/Ninjak and fan-favorite Jason David Frank as Bloodshot, with former WWE Superstar and Lucha Underground wrestler John Hennigan as Eternal Warrior. It's directed by Aaron Schoenke.

Aside from the initial trailer, there's been little seen of the series. It was slated for release late 2017, and there's even a four-part comic book miniseries debuting in January that was to coincide with its release, but no other information has been provided.

Valiant fans have been clamoring for their favorite characters to take the leap to either the small or big screen and this series could be right dose of medicine to help with their waiting pains.

Premiere Date: Unspecified 2018

Ninjak looks like some Mortal Kombat ninja reject.  I like the early Valiant characters so I hope they hit a home run with something, but this probably won't be it.

Ninjak was created in 1993, so he's at least not a recent Mortal Kombat reject, since Mortal Kombat started in 1992 (and wasn't immediately a household name).

He looks like purple Mortal Kombat guy, but his actual character is more Batman combined with James Bond.
