Either I was too subtle with my sarcasm or we both were.    I don't mean to cast aspersions on the thought behind the "dot fell off" theory, but it feels like someone's working hard to construct something backwards from a preferred conclusion.   The most simple and logical and likely conclusion is that the dot was left off and as they started running the copies off they realized it looked weird, so they corrected it.

There was a long thread not too long ago regarding the dates on Marvel Comics 1.  There are some great "theories" there...
