The only series I'm actively collecting is Haunted Love, but there must be some more interesting books in this huge mass of stuff!

My advice - start with GCD - www.comics.org.  Pull up Charlton, within the total set of 385 series or titles there are 35 romance titles (see below), drill into them and check out their cover galleries and start writing issue numbers of the ones that appeal to you.  Then it's off to Ebay.

1,227 issues total.  An hour of looking, maybe?  probably half that.  Then come back and tell us which ones you dig and we can compare notes, talk about scarcity, rarity.  GCD is the collector's #1 research tool.  You can get a complete cover overview of a title in 10 seconds flat.

There are some absolute gems in what is generally considered to be a pure comic wasteland.  And it is true that Charlton production values can sometimes be...lacking, shall we say?  but there's still very collectible work from Colletta, Giordano, Alascia, Cappello, Sutton, and the Argentinian artists, particularly Demetrio.

and as to who collects Charlton?  FETT would be the #1 answer.  You'd have a better chance of catching a glimpse of Bigfoot in your backyard then Sweethearts 122. And True Life Secrets 25 makes a Top 20 List of all romance comics. imho of course!  

Charlton btw was the most prolific romance publisher.  1,370 issues (my original number is off), crushing the nearest competitor DC at 932 issues, and in the end beating DC's longevity as well.  The Romance Era ended with Soap Opera Love #3, June 1983.

I am currently studying these covers and compiling some cover lists of stuff that stands out to me. I'll post it when I am done so we can discuss how bad my taste is. 

I kind of want to get Career Girl Romances #50 because of the crazy guy in the background just grinning into the camera!

Early 70s Just Married & Mid 70s Love Diary.

The painted covers from the late 70s are wonderfully horrible.
Holy Flamenco guitars batman ! The artist for that Love Diary is Tom Sutton. Marvel comics - StarLord.

Looking through back issues of Charlton romance books, there are quite a few very psychedelic covers by Tom Sutton.
I wonder if he hung w "the studio" crew: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Studio_(commune) 
or maybe they just had the same independent pharmaceutical representative.
