A half eaten hostess twinkie. I started eating it in 79, and must have forgotten about it. I found it again last week behind a cupboard. Where should I send it? I think it's still edible.

Great job!  I guess Marwood's half-eaten Twinkie is all we have in this thread to offer.

Again, not mine, but a xerox of a page in the process from ASM 134.  Background inks by Dave Hunt, pencils by Ross Andru, to be later inked by Frank Giacoia.

I somehow just noticed this thread now. Lots of great stuff. Like some other folks here, I grew ups reading Andru-drawn Spideys.

Seeing some of Andru's un-inked pencils makes me wish somebody else did the inking. The finished product often seemed kind of rough to me.

I liked Giacoia's inks over Andru's pencils  a lot better than Esposito's.  It would be interesting to see some others though.  Not sure I felt about McLeod's inks in ASM 183, very different.

Tom Palmer inks might have been interesting to see. Or Romita, of course. Either would have added a bit more depth to Andru's pencils.

Though I forgot how great this splash page was, even with the Esposito inks:

I've been having a fierce debate with myself on whether to submit this cbcs copy to CGC for the crossover promotion. If I do I'll definitely have it screened first. I'm not sure how honest they'll be as in will they honestly say that it'll have a fair chance at a downgrade? It would be in their interest to say everything is worth a shot at regrading.

I love those new holders but if there's a downgrade I'll just die! I'm just not sure yet (shrug)???

That's a beautiful book, so I can definitely understand your  dilemma .

Well, Romita did ink Andru on Issue 125 and 151, both looked great IMHO.  I would have loved to see Palmer give it a shot as well.

Oh, where is it from?  That's a good one, let's see who else knows it.

I'm waiting... :taptaptap:

Oh, I know, just seeing if others wanted to play along.  This doesn't even look like Andru (from same issue)

Indeed. I could never work it out as a kid when I got my first copy. Thought there must be two Ross Andru's....

That's kind of how I fell about Ross's work on the Flash, just doesn't fit.  It's like he found his groove in the mid-seventies on the Amazing Spider-man.

I never read the Flash as a kid but I agree, when I checked it out much later as an Andru fan I felt the same. The Spidey era just worked. Let's face it, there are more accomplished artists out there,  and Ross could turn in a dodgy panel or two, but the overall body for me just screams 'proper Spidey' like no other era. For me anyway. The mood and look are definitive for me. Probably a childhood longing thing,  but who cares.

I didn't remember that. And yup, they do look great.
