No other Airfix kids in this thread? This was my first big(ish) model.

I think I built this Flying Fortress in 1976.

We had kits imported from the US as well. My Revell 'dam buster' Lancaster was finished mid afternoon on Christmas Day 1975. Luckily even enamel paint dries quickly in the Australian summer!

I received one of these when my sister was born in 3/62.

My parents told me it was a gift from my new baby sister.

Then about 10 years ago I was feeling nostalgic and decided I needed to own another piece of my childhood again so I spent $100.00 to reacquire another beany copter, unfortunately not MIB.

I built WW2 model aircraft in high school (1972/1973) and when we started studying WW2 my history teacher hung them all from the ceiling of the classroom.

I remember I had three of these battery operated robots (possibly from Marx) about 6-8" high with rubber tank treads that would pretty much just go in one direction when powered on but they were very well made.

The three I thought were coolest though:  Seconding many others here with the Major Matt Mason set (my cousin even built a paper mache moon landscape on plywood to set the base on).  (As an aside to jmg3637, there was also Sgt. Storm (in a red suit, he was the second character introduced), Lt.  Long (blue suit), Captain Lazer (larger and made of harder plastic, battery operated "laser" eyes and sword/staff), Callisto (alien with a transparent green head) and a few others that I didn't own because I think my parents called "enough" at that point).  Then there was the James Bond attache case which I still own and was well-played with (several embarrassing photos exist where I'm on my way to some function or other with case in tow).  And finally the Captain Action figures with appropriate costumes/face masks.  With a couple of these you could have adventures of Captain America next to the Lone Ranger or the Green Hornet next to Batman or the Phantom with Spider Man.

Anyone play with colorforms (besides the Outer Spacemen figures) growing up? I had this set as a child and have picked up several since then. Early creative impulse to create your own stories with pictures.

I played with that set endlessly as a kid, and got one a few years ago for my collection. :luhv:
