Greggggg!!! He was standing strong, and of course this is all staged.  I was rooting for Greg, hoping he wouldn’t do it.  It would’ve been silly for him to sell it at 32, yet alone 33.  I have to ask him about this.

It is great seeing the books on TV, Greg, and I was surprised they brought in CGC grader Paul Litch! Ahhh, I miss my Avengers 1!

Thanks for sharing.

I always find these fun. Especially with the low ball appraisals. Last link might not work for some as it is region (US) restricted.

So this guy had NO idea, not a clue what they were worth?  So he expects us to believe he doesn't have a computer with internet access, and the only way to find the value of these items is to appear on the Roadshow. OK.

It was so convenient for Litch to be in town just when Greg needed the books appraised. ;)

Antiques Roadshow puts guests on for one of three reasons:  (1) Because they have something valuable and they don't know it; (2) because they have something they think is valuable, but it isn't (much less likely to happen now); or (3) because they have a cool item that pertains to the area in which they are in.

As a result, to get on t.v., folks feign ignorance to fall into category (1).  You can usually tell who they are.

How do I know this?  I had an item appraised on AR.  My item, however, fell into category (3).  I knew the three criteria going in because a relative works for PBS.  Consequently, because my item was a great example of a category (3), I knew there was a very high chance I'd get on t.v. before I walked in the door. I wasn't surprised when they picked me, and I ended up getting a lot of insights about the process as I stood around for several hours waiting to get filmed.

I just watched the Antique Road Show as well for the first time.  A vg- AV1 selling for 4-6K. We are living in a dream world, and yes Gator, I just saw thumb tacks on the lower left bottom cover, and the paper around that had been ripped due to them- Horrible!!!!

Why?????

Those are magnets, not thumbtacks.

I had to take a screenshot and look at it closely. You are correct. It does give the illusion that the paper is ripped.
