I have picked up a few now and then but none have grabbed my attention. Maybe someday I will go back to buying 30+ issues a month. Or Maybe I am just not buying them as much anymore because I just don't have the space for them. It's a pain hauling comics when you got to move!

A big fat zero. Nothing against them though. Just another expense I don't need.

"It was the kids, David! They called me Mr. Glass!"

That was a great movie.

As for new comics, I buy none. But I did purchase the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen trade and the Superman, Batman: Generations trade two weeks ago.

Wow... I can't believe I never replied to this thread originally... or even completed the poll...

I must have been logged in as Hammer that day...

Anyway, I pick up between 310-340 titles a month for the shop (just for reference Marvel-DC-Dark Horse and Image usually combine for just 180 books total each month), but that wasn't really the point of the question. For myself, I usually pick up around 40-50 titles each month, and then every few months I will go back through and cull out the stuff I would rather have in TPB form and stuff I just don't need lying around. People always ask me how big my personal collection is, and are stunned to find out it's less than four long boxes...

The stuff that always comes home with me:

100 Bullets

Strangers in Paradise

Patrick the Wolf Boy

Powers

Eightball

Lurid

Anything Ennis and Dillon do together

Y: The Last Man

To update how many titles I buy, and to also note that the pay in advance for a 20 percent discount from my shop fell through (which means a fair chunk of kids books and other titles did not make the cut of what I purchase every month).

Here's my update:

I lost USM, Gi Joe, Cap and Green Arrow. I have my subscription to Batman, Detective and JLA but continue to buy Batman the last wednesday of every month!

I want to get the USM in trades - I thought that 90% of each individual issue I have sucked, but in the trades it is truly something to behold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GI Joe had some great stuff but I would rather not spend $3 a month on it - might wait for those to hit the 50 cent bin at cons, same with Green Arrow. Cap just got dumb IMO.

I have started buying Brath after my CBG review of it, but now I am thinking of passing . . . it's not worth the $3 for a comic that I can literally read while I am standing in line at the store . . .

I did a review once for CBG (not CGC) on Brath prequel-2 and am trying to get a few more published. The main man is Brent Frankenhoff - who is incredibly friendly and easy going. I met him at the NYC heritage and talked to him about some reviews and he gave me his card and said give him a call - the rest is history! I am working on another review now - for Battle of the Planets vs Thundercats.

Here is literally everything from Previews that I Iasked to have put in my pull box:

(snip for brevity)

Do I understand you correctly? You're getting that much stuff, and you wanted to get more, and you offered to pay in advance if you'd get a 20% discount, and your store said no?

*shakes head*

I don't get that at all...

I have a standing offer with my customers that when they special order something, I give them my discount less 8% if they pay in advance... A guy orders a $200 statue that I get 45% on, he pays $126 if he wants to pay upfront... I only make about $10 on the sale after freight, but I have use of the funds and a guaranteed sale which is more valuable to me... Plus my customers order more stuff which helps my Diamond discount, and they are less likely to disappear on me since they have pre-paid stuff on the way...

Man, I just don't get that... I'm not suggesting your store should give you 40% off on your new books, but 20% on a prepay is free money for them... confused.gifconfused.gif

I didn't want to look back to see if I had already answered this or not, so as of this post I regularly buy..

Goon

Amazing Spider-man

Ultimate Spider-man

Hulk

The Ultimates

Captain America

and I will buy Peter Parker when it begins.

I only pick up a couple of new issues: Batman, JLA, JSA, and Y The Last Man. I just picked the latest issue of the Flash and I will ride it out to issue 200. If I like it, then I will add it to my monthly pull.

Brian, I have never even heard of "Goon". Would you care to share some info on this title like who the writer and artist are and maybe what the story is all about. I am always looking to add new books to my pull.

I buy/read about 130 comics plus 1-3 trades every month.

I think the stuff being written today, from Marvel's Ultimate stuff to Image's Powers to DC's Vertigo stuff to Crossgen's Ruse and anything by Gaiman and Moore, are the best ever! Even though I look at comics almost everyday, I never go to sleep without reading at least 1 comic book every night. Planes rides to cons are the best, I get to kick back and read the whole time cloud9.gif

And don't forget, anything done by Rich Koslowski is a must! The new Three Geeks is on the racks this week 893applaud-thumb.gif

Steve,

I could not agree more. I recently picked up about 20 issues of Powers and was shocked. This was one of the best books I have ever read, the best Bendis writing out there and the Oeming art was great as well. Also on the recommendation of Chrisco37 I tried 100 Bullets, Fables, and a few other Vertigo titles and they are equally as good. There are truly some great reads out there.

Ask Chrisco37 who turned him onto that awesome stuff gossip.gifgrin.gif He and I PM each other every month when we finish the newest issue of fables.

Try the Authority(1st series) trades from wildstorm, now that was a wild ride!

Thanks for the tip Steve, I will definately look into the Authority. I am always open to recommendations for new books that are worth a look. If you turned Chris onto those other titles then I thank you for telling him about them so he could tell me.

If there are any other new titles of this calibre then let me know. So far the other reads have been great and are only getting better. smile.gif

I've had a bit of involvement in Chrisco37's reading habits as well... smile.gif

And yes, the Authority was some good... It's too soon to tell about volume 2, but the whole first series was great.

I think it's damn cool that you still read as many books as you do... A lot of guys (who have owned the kind of Golden Age you have) seem to turn their noses up at anything made today as though it all belongs in a dumpster. I really think they are missing out. Every genre (except possibly Western) is well-represented on the racks today, and I think it's a damn fine time to be reading comics.

Wow... that's a lot of books being read here...

I still get:

Batman

Detective Comics

Avengers

Cap

Teen Titans (when it's released)

JSA

Daredevil (but only til Bendis is on it)

Flash (the best super hero book out there)

Y the Last Man

Fables

Ultimates (when it comes out)

And about 4 or 5 trades every month (usually looking for ultimate whatever).
