Sure...but the first Venom film opened on the 3-day holiday weekend.

For this one, the second Monday was the holiday, so *of course* it held better than its predecessor.

Context matters, kids! :)

It certainly does. Now at 4.1X production budget and during the still somewhat degrading theater times of the pandemic, kids! :)

Why would China allow jungle cruise to release there , which was a complete and total flop, and not this , where the first made a quarter billion?

Makes no sense...

There was a THR article recently that talked about the same COVID mess going on over there that the rest of the world has experienced. So that Committee is trying to ensure its in-country films get priority screen time.

But how they are selecting what gets released from Hollywood has been really weird (and sensitive on what leads to unannounced exclusion candidates).

Thank you for the explanation.

hm China notwithstanding, it looks like this thing may actually get to within p!ssssssssing d!stance of the first one, Corona or no Corona.

Never thought I'd say this but Disney should take note on sonys strategy with this series.  You don't need to spend 150MM-250MM on these things, and it's looking increasingly like you better not , without the China money anymore.

Guess all that Hollywood pandering to them was for naught.

I was disappointed with the first one. It was ok I guess but the effects in the finale looked like a PlayStation game. That said, I’m rooting for this one because I love watching Tom Hardy and I love these characters. I hope this one just goes over the top and will be one of those superior sequels to the original.

I was disappointed again.
