Three mysterious sisters have been added to cast listings for the upcoming Shazam 2, aka Shazam! Fury of the Gods, as “adversaries” to the film. But who could these mysterious characters be, and what kind of connections might they have with other corners of the DC Extended Universe?

After the massive global success of Shazam! and with Black Adam still on the road to production (despite having its release date delayed indefinitely, as reported by ScreenRant) it makes sense for the current cinematic incarnation of the DC Universe to feature more concepts and characters from that corner of the superhero universe. But it appears three more mysterious figures are coming to the big screen with Shazam in his next adventure.

Members of The Illuminerdi have been getting updates about the casting search for Shazam! Fury of the Gods recently. Production on the film is set to begin in 2021, and three more adversaries have been added to the cast-listings for the DCEU film. Only referred to as “Sisters,” the three antagonists will differ in age.

The youngest of the trio will be seventeen, and the casting-sheet suggests Spider-Man: Far From Home star Zendaya as a template. The middle sister will be an established adult, with Halle Berry and Eva Green offered as suggestions of what the producers are considering. Finally, the eldest sister is described as being in her fifties or sixties, and Helen Mirren is the specific actress suggested as their dream casting for Shazam 2.

None of this is to say any of the three actresses have even been approached about the role, only that these are the types of actresses that the producers have in mind for the parts. The lack of any name for the three sisters (as well as any real breakdown of their personalities or roles in the story) also makes it difficult to say with certainty who the three are playing in Shazam 2.

The cast of Shazam! Fury of the Gods is getting ready to say the magic word once again, according to a recent post from a cast member. While DC Comics and New Line Cinema prepare for production on the Shazam! sequel and Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam spinoff, we're starting to hear rumblings about the future of this magical corner of the superhero universe. Now it looks like actor Ross Butler, who played the super-powered version of Eugene Choi, is excited to get back to work very soon with filming reportedly beginning sometime later this year.

Butler celebrated Flashback Friday on Instagram with a photo alongside Ian Chen, the young actor who played the child version of Eugene Choi. In the caption, he teased that work would begin on Shazam! Fury of the Gods soon.

Shazam! actor Zachary Levi previously confirmed that filming would begin in 2021 during an interview on Dan Fogler's 4D Xperience. The movie was originally delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"They announced that we were gonna do a sequel pretty much right after we premiered. They knew we were tracking well enough, they were happy enough with the numbers," said Levi. "So they have been steadily and earnestly working on the -script for the sequel and I think Q1 of next year is the idea... COVID has kind of made everything a little bit up in the air, but very much the intent is to make another one," he added. "We gotta get to it fast, the kids are growing fast."

just watched shazam 1 with my 6 year old and he loved it. great movie for a kid, even though the seven sins are pretty scary. i've always loved Mark Strong, who plays Sivana. and the humor is just great. i keep trying to find what superhero stuff to watch with him so i can delay infinity war till he's old enough to deal with all the death.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will commence filming in May according to star Meagan Good. Directed by David F. Sandberg, the first Shazam! movie was a rousing success at the box-office and among critics. The movie marked the DC debut of Asher Angel's Billy Batson, an orphaned teenager who acquires the ability to transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi). At the end of Shazam!, Billy passes his supernatural abilities along to his siblings, who then help him take down the Seven Deadly Sins and Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong). One of Billy's siblings in the movie is Faithe Herman's good-natured Darla Dudley, whose adult version is portrayed by Good. Both Herman and Good have been confirmed to return for the upcoming Shazam! sequel.

Recently, Meagan Good appeared on the The Carlos Watson Show (via Shazam Updates) and confirmed the plan is for Shazam! 2 to begin filming this summer. In the interview, Good talks about her upcoming schedule, revealing that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is targeting an early summer 2021 date to commence filming. "God willing and by the grace of God, Shazam 2 starts in May," said Good, affirming that the highly-anticipated DC sequel will begin shooting almost two years before its theatrical release.

Maybe for Meagan or some of the other actors to report per their contract filming schedule.  Film & Television Industry Alliance has production starting April 5, 2021 at Pinewood Toronto Studios.

Need to reserve the space to begin building sets and such first.  We'll know for certain when Sandberg posts another electronic clapboard photo like last time.  :cloud9:

Rumor for now.

Quote

The relationship between Henry Cavill and DC Films has been a bit rocky over the past couple years. You’ve had highs like Man of Steel and lows like when they were apparently looking to replace him as Superman. That relationship has been repaired and Cavill is going to play the character for a while. One of the caveats to this is that he might not be appearing in his own film like a Man of Steel 2. The reports for a long time were that he’d be popping up in other DC properties. The most recent of these rumors was that he’d show up in Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

Well, now we can confirm that our sources are telling us that Henry Cavill is appearing in Shazam 2. Based on casting information from the upcoming DC film, Henry Cavill is listed as a member of the cast. What this means for DC going forward is a little bit murkier. We know that we’re getting the upcoming Snyder Cut of Justice League. But for the rest of the DC schedule, it’s unclear how everything connects.

A film like Matt Reeves’s The Batman is set in a completely different universe than the current DC one. Also there’s the issue of The Flash. That film looks to cross multiverse lines, so it’ll be interesting to see how Cavill fits in to that story, if at all. For now, we do know that Shazam and Cavill’s Superman are going to be in the same movie. Hopefully it leads to some funny interactions between the two, in the same vein as the below the neck cameo we got in Shazam.

The interesting thing is David Sandberg did not dismiss the story that Henry Cavill was going to appear in the film. He just made it clear originally they had planned for him to appear in the first film, and it didn't happen.

Rachel Zegler, who plays Maria in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming musical “West Side Story,” has joined the cast of “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” for DC and New Line, TheWrap has learned exclusively.

Zegler will play a key role with details being kept under wraps. Zegler also becomes the second Colombian American to be cast in a DC superhero project, following Sasha Calle joining the cast of “The Flash” in the role of Supergirl.

“Shazam: Fury of the Gods” is a highly anticipated sequel to New Line and DC Comics’ 2019 film “Shazam!” It will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “Shazam!” is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam.

I was looking for the Marvel Captain Marvel thread and somehow ended up here.

Any speculation that Zegler is actually going to play Isis and that the character will debut in Shazam 2 rather than Black Adam?

Time will tell. But I like how all these announcements are making Black Adam more a JSA film with a massive threat in the title role.
