Variety has learned from sources that Disney’s upcoming streaming service is officially developing a limited series based on the archery ace Marvel character with Renner attached to star. The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.

Disney and Marvel declined to comment. Reps for Renner declined to comment.

Renner has been a part of the MCU since he first appeared as Hawkeye in an uncredited cameo in “Thor.” He has since played the role in “Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and “Captain America: Civil War.” He will next appear in “Avengers: Endgame,” which hits theaters on April 26. Renner is also known for his Oscar-nominated roles in “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town” as well as films such as “American Hustle,” “Arrival,” and “Wind River.”

As Variety previously reported, there are also Disney+ limited series in the works that will focus on MCU characters like Falcon and Winter Soldier, as well as Loki, Vision, and Scarlet Witch. The series are expected to be six to eight episodes. The series on the Disney+ will be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, who has headed up the MCU for years.

What happens to Hawkeye’s Disney+ spinoff after ‘Avengers: Endgame’?

Quote

Each Disney+ spinoff is a big-budget miniseries, running from six to eight episodes. Here’s everything we know about Hawkeye, from casting updates to news about the show’s overall concept and connection to the Avengers franchise.

Jeremy Renner is set to star, with Kate Bishop’s actress yet to be cast. The show is likely to feature supporting characters from elsewhere in the MCU, so we could see Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) or Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) return for an episode or two.

Hawkeye is expected to take place after Avengers: Endgame. According to Variety, “The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop.” Marvel hasn’t clarified whether the show will feature any of Kate Bishop’s Young Avengers teammates from the comics, potentially leading into a Young Avengers spin-off.

In terms of character development, Clint Barton is in a different position from the heroes of Marvel’s other Disney+ shows. While they’re all secondary characters from the Avengers franchise, Hawkeye arguably has the sketchiest characterization in the movies.

I'm wondering if the Hawkeye limited series and the Black Widow movie will be ways to not only wrap up the stories of these two "lesser" Avengers, but also a way to introduce their younger replacements? Seems like Kate Bishop will replace Clint Barton. Will Black Widow do something similar? Ava Orlova/ Red Widow maybe? We already know who's replacing Steve Rogers.

Jeremy Renner was coked up and drunk when he began rhapsodizing about killing his ex-wife Sonni, and the night ended with the actor shoving a gun in his mouth and threatening to kill himself ... so claims Sonni in new legal docs.

Jeremy and Sonni are in a battle royale for custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Ava. She's asking the judge to change the order from joint custody to sole custody on her part with monitored visitation on Jeremy's.

Sonni claims last November Jeremy was at a club, high on coke and booze, when he began talking about killing Sonni, telling someone he "could not deal with her anymore, and he just wanted her gone."

According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, Jeremy put a gun in his mouth, threatened to kill himself, and fired the gun into the ceiling while Ava was asleep in her bedroom.

I wonder if Disney pulls the plug on this show right now until this sorts itself out?

TBH, I do wish they would have recast him. It was the perfect time to do so, and he's never been a great at the role (often being the weakest thing about the movies). Love the character, but his MCU portrayal has been so very bland (would have loved Jensen Ackles in the role)

my daughter would love that, she's a huge Jensen fan

Sounds like Disney may still keep this alive. Just bump it back to allow for the rumored actress to free up her schedule, and Jeremy Renner to clear up his legal challenges.

Hawkeye on Disney Plus misses the mark, still aiming for a future release

Disney recently pushed up WandaVision before the original rumor of Hawkeye's cancellation made the rounds and, if you're a Marvel comics fan, you'll understand why Disney has decided to release these shows in a different order. In the comics, Kate Bishop takes up the mantle of Hawkeye after Clint Barton's death. Later in time, Scarlet Witch, one of the main characters in the upcoming WandaVision show on Disney+, brings Clint back to life and both Barton and Bishop share the role of Hawkeye. Given the artwork that's been released by Disney so far (pictured above), it's pretty safe to say they're going to follow this storyline to some degree.

One of the other reasons for the delay is down to a casting issue. It turns out the actress that was rumored to be chosen for the role of Kate Bishop, Hailee Steinfeld, is a tad busy filming Dickinson on Apple TV+. On top of that, Jeremy Renner, the actor who plays Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the Avengers, has been having some personal issues that are allegedly causing issues with filming in one way or another.

While it's possible that additional casting or other production issues could also be at fault for the delay, it seems the release timeline for MCU fans may end up turning out better because of logical events that happen in the story. Either way, Hawkeye is still on target for release on Disney+, but it's most certainly not until well into 2021 at this point.

Jeremy Renner claims the coronavirus pandemic is already putting a financial strain on his bank account.

The “Hawkeye” star filed a request on Monday in Los Angeles to lower his child support payments since many of the productions he had lined up this year are “likely canceled or postponed” due to the outbreak, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.

Renner, 49, currently pays his ex, Sonni Pacheco, about $30,000 a month for their 6-year-old daughter Ava’s housing, food, transportation and clothing. He has requested the payments be lowered to $11,000.

We all are suffering during these challenging times. :insane:
