As a Bond girl or villain maybe but Bond should always be a man either way what would you call the men? A female Bond would go with Bond boys? If I could cast a few Bond girls they would be Kellita Smith and Yvonne Strahovski they are both beautiful women.

Why does it have to be men? I'm not following your naming there. You mean the character name is James Bond? Got that, but it really makes no sense since it's been 10 different male actors.

You would hardly cast a man in the part of Cleopatra there are just some characters who are male and the same goes for female roles.(thumbsu

As I said, there have been many different males. Maybe you have been living inside the past 5 years and don't know the current Hollywood climate?

No I stand by what I said Hollywood is not dictating the trend it is the novelty factor. The characters are gender specific what next "John Eyre" "Robert of Sunnybrook farm" "Shirley Holmes" the list goes on some parts are fixed in stone.(thumbsu

Look at this statement in the article.

" the female factor certainly helped craft "a brand new Sherlock Holmes."

Notice the word FACTOR? As I say the novelty, when these classic characters were first created the authors had a specific gender in mind, I actually don't mind a female version however the characters are canon and should not be changed.

Moreover, James Bond is NOT in the public domain.  I'm assuming the Ian Fleming estate still has a certain say in how his character is portrayed... it's not just up to Hollywood (or whatever international conglomerate the Bond franchise has now become).

However there was already a female 007 her name was Ursula Andress and yes it was only a code name as she played Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale 1967.

On January 1st, 2015, the works of Ian Fleming entered the public domain in a number of countries. That means that the character of James Bond is no longer copyrighted in those countries, just like Sherlock Holmes has been for a while. But it doesn't mean that it's suddenly open season on that character.

In Europe, Fleming's books have twenty more years to go before they hit the public domain. In the United States, with renewal, it can be 95 years from publication.

Eon productions still own the Rights that's why there were two versions of Thunderball because Kevin McClory helped Ian Fleming on the -script and developed the movie Bond far removed from Fleming's original character. So long as he kept within that story line and characters he could make as many versions as he wanted, other than that Eon Production calls the shots.(thumbsu

Idris Elba would be a good choice.

Image result for black james bond

Elba is currently 47 years old, Craig is 51 and has another movie to come in 2020 making him 52. They portrayed Craig in Skyfall as being outdated, past it if you will. Looking at how much time generally taken between Bond films it can take another 3 years after the last Craig film to develop a new Bond movie, which begs the question are they going to build a franchise around Elba who would be 51 when his first movie is released? Making him pushing 60 by the end of a trilogy?

Unless they are going to portray Bond in his later years ala Neeson in Taken.
