Some impressive results. As usual Baker rules.

Not too bad at all as it was just past my initial top end estimate as I was thinking $60K to $80K when I first saw this listing last month.  (thumbsu

Not quite the 6-figure threshold that some here were expecting it to hit, but definitely a very nice move up as you really can't expect to do it all in just one shot. :applause:

On the other hand, also a few less than impressive results with this once red hot book here being rather noticeable on the downside:  :frown:

https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/romance/cindy-comics-37-timely-1949-cgc-vg-45-off-white-pages/a/40216-81047.s

Golden Age (1938-1955):Romance, Cindy Comics #37 (Timely, 1949) CGC VG+ 4.5 Off-white pages....

Sold for only $750 when equivalent graded copies were selling between $1,250 to $1,500 in the 2016 to 2017 time period, with Heritage even able to sell a raw VG+ copy for almost $1,800 back near the end of 2017.  I guess the seller of this copy for only $750 must have lost money on it since this exact same copy was purchased from Heritage for $1,080 just a few short months ago in October of 2022.  :(

Talking about impressive results, this one here certainly seem like a very shockingly strong result, especially for a more recent DC book:  :whatthe:

Silver Age (1956-1969):Romance, Falling in Love #99 (DC, 1968) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages....

Sold for a rather stunning $2,400 and for a copy that's only the 3rd highest graded copy and with also another two copies in equivalent 9.4 graded condition.  :applause:

Now the GCE 12 3.5 for 20k...

I thought in my head that was crazy, but held my tongue because I figured it would put my ignorance on full display

Probably sold to "John" who's having withdrawal symptoms and desperate now after his spouse won't let him have the real thing anymore.    lol

Now, I initially thought this was rather super impressive for the SINGLE LOWEST GRADED copy of this Baker classic cover at $4,560:  :whatthe:

https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/romance/cinderella-love-25-st-john-1954-cgc-fr-gd-15-off-white-pages/a/40216-81046.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115

Golden Age (1938-1955):Romance, Cinderella Love #25 (St. John, 1954) CGC FR/GD 1.5 Off-white pages....

That is, until I scrolled a bit further down to see that this exact same copy had sold for $6K in a Heritage Signature Auction only back in August of 2022.  To each their own, but being a longer term collector I've never quite understood the rationale for reselling a book so quickly because the chances are high that you are going to lose money, as opposed to making money on the book.  (shrug)

The appearance belies the grade. The colors look quite good—in the manipulated HA scan, anyway.

I always feel like I have to come out of the woodwork and defend GCE 12!

Full disclosure: I own a low-grade copy with CT that I got from an MCS auction last summer. (And even then folks were questioning the $3.9K hammer price)

A 5.0 sold on HA for $26.4K in Aug. 2022. So this recent sale of a 3.5 at $19.2K is right in line with that. It's an infamous Baker cover that depicts a sex worker (albeit subtly), is pretty rare (15 on the CGC census), and is currently listed as #1 on the most valuable romance comics in Overstreet (granted that list is kinda weird and CL25 should probably hold the top spot). I think it rightfully deserves its place among Baker's most desirable covers!

Great post! Honestly I wasn't surprised. I was thinking around 3k because it's an awesome unique cover and you never see one above mid grade for sale.

I’m right there with you. My favorite Baker cover and one of the top 10 in my collection. Sleezy with a bit of kind of innocence. Nothing going on to distract you. CL 25 is just slightly behind it on my list. One of his most desirable covers.

How bout this one, surprised you haven't mentioned it yet...a rare Promise resell win, having sold for first for $14,400.  Although with how the Seven Seas 5 Promise resale did and how other Bakers are doing, I think this one is probably benefitting from a few new well funded entrants into the Baker market.

This one strikes me as a testament to how well these specific Focused auctions are doing.

In a different venue, I think it would have been lucky to fetch half that amount.

Still no Funnies on Parade which is the big old great granddaddy of them all, but interesting to note that this is the second Sunday in a row that Heritage has had a small run of the early historic Famous Funnies books which usually don't tend to come around too often. :whatthe:

This one here appears to be a run from FF 2 to FF 5 and from visual appearance only, looks to be in nicer shape than the copies last week:  :luhv:

Platinum Age (1897-1937):Miscellaneous, Famous Funnies #5 (Eastern Color, 1934) Condition: VG+....

Still all at very very attractive price points for now, and will definitely be interesting to see where the Famous Funnies 3 with the first appearance of Buck Roger does by the time it's all said and done.  Especially considering that a raw Fair copy of FF 3 sold last Sunday for $1,200 while this raw Good+ copy is still at a hammer price of only $125 for now that is.   :taptaptap:  :taptaptap:

Was watching parts of the Heritage Sunday/Monday Auction this weekend and just wondering what most boardies feelings are when it comes to Heritage's raw grading and detection of possible restoration on a book?  ???

Especially since it seems that more and more of their books in these weekend auctions are being auctioned off raw as compared to the past.  I assume most bidders must think their grading and restoration detection skills are pretty much bang on since I remember results on some of these raw books (eg. New Adventure and More Fun pre-hero DC books) must be in line with CGC since prices were quite high, and if I remember correctly, in some cases, even relatively higher than graded copies that were sold later in their Signature Auctions.  Or are these bidders for these raw books "smoking something" and just hoping for the best?  hm  (shrug)

If the batman 1 7.0 wasn't enough, looks like a Batman 1 8.0 was also added. There are just so MANY juicy books to look at in the next auction. :jawdrop:

Once again, Heritage will destroy the competition.
