Excellent! Thank you David :headbang:

52 of a possible 64 confirmed.

I wonder if any of the four eligible titles will ever break 6 issues or whether 5 will be the maximum regardless of the date window (a bit like the 1999/2000 Marvel Price Variants)?

All good fun :)

Based on Mike's amazing World site, the on sale date for the initial issue in your CPV range are as follows; It suggests that Charlton CPV start with the issues on sale from 9th June - eliminating the four issues that would bring the totals to 6 on those titles.

26th May

Ghost Manor # 70

Gunfighters # 80

2nd. June

Fightin' Marines #170

Haunted # 69

9th. June

Attack # 42

Scary Tales # 40

21st. June

Beyond The Grave # 11

War # 41

5th. July

Fightin' Navy # 127

Ghostly Tales # 163

12th July

Battle Field Action # 83

Fightin' Army # 166

That makes perfect sense to me David. Comics with the same cover month are of course produced / printed in stages and hit the newsstands on different weeks. So it does indeed look like someone at Charlton HQ requested a run / experiment of five 75c Canadian priced issues for 12 titles with a starting date at the printers of the books that would head to the newsstand on the 9th June 1983.

That would make a nice round 60 issues with 52 confirmed so far.

If true, the missing eight issues are:

  • Ghost Manor #73, 74, 75
  • Ghostly Tales #166, 167
  • Haunted #70, 72
  • Scary Tales #43

Odd that it is all the horror ones isn't it hm

My research rule is always that books are recorded as unconfirmed until proven, but it seems 5 of them have been sighted.

Great collaborative effort in this thread guys. I like it :headbang:

Brings us up to 54 confirmed of either 64 or the more likely 60, if David's theory is proven:

Morning all :)

While we wait for new CPV sightings, here are two from the Army with no G's.

First up, Fightin' Army #168:

1032298502_FightinArmy168(Vol.16)February1984(75c).thumb.jpg.9ad9db2ee61a4d768cd40a72bb2c4efc.jpg

"It's just another day" Aint she pretty. The eagle eyed amongst you will have great eye sight and the ability to catch unsuspecting field mice. Also, you may see the nice arrival stamp on the cover of  '9 DEC 1983'. I wonder what took so long, given the 'On Sale Date' recorded over at Mike's:

fa168.PNG.07c668e44eb5fd35f40c027dd3046cd6.PNG

Shipping time hm

Next up, and to preserve the wonders of sequential numbering, Fightin' Army #169:

1127816405_FightinArmy169(Vol.16)May1984(75c).thumb.jpg.86f157adcbcee3335670aca64f138ee5.jpg

As someone else noted, you can still see the US 60c price behind the overprinted 75c price on this book:

1193189384_FightinArmy16960cPriceVisibleon75cCopy.jpg.283f4c4ede1750cf2cecf35b4faa0886.jpg

How cool is that? A similar phenomenomemnom can be seen over in my King Comics thread. And Marvel. I like that kind of thing you see.

What puzzles me with these Charlie CPVs is how the printer had the foresight to include the US and Canadian prices on the indicia...

1415508772_FightinArmy169Indicia(60cand75c).thumb.jpg.7bc576119c5ad0a09390e5d0cec6f3d5.jpg

...and to add the UK '25p' price to the cover:

1193189384_FightinArmy16960cPriceVisibleon75cCopy.jpg.283f4c4ede1750cf2cecf35b4faa0886.jpg

Dual pricing is such an easy way to remove the need for different printings. So why not have the triple on the cover? triple.jpg.afddbad46b8d22f372669ebacd9fb7a3.jpg

Marvel had cottoned on to this by this time.

We may never care know....

:)

I like this one.

Apart from the rather excellent Charlton miswrap / cut it is a 'special dogs of war issue':

582693420_Attack45(Vol.10)March1984(75c).thumb.jpg.a6a31d042a5a63c3f97a88bb79991a71.jpg

How can you not love the special dogs of war? Especially when they have been so faithfully rendered?

All that for 60 cents. Sorry, 75 cents :)

You mean Ralph? Yes, he's feeling rough Jim as he got stuck on the roof with Rolf, the orange dog, who got him by the ruff of the neck.
