2020 "THIS SCORE NEEDS FIXIN" REQUESTS
4 4

114 posts in this topic

Hi Matt,

I'd like to request updates to scores for Brick Bradford 6 and Chamber of Chills 23 (Harvey, 1954)

Brick Bradford 6 is an Alex Schomburg robot cover in high demand. I think an 8.0 deserves at least 5 times the 420 points currently allocated to it.

From GPAAnalysis

8.5 Sold Feb 2020 for $3600

8.0 Sold July 2020 for $2280

8.0 Sold Feb 2020 for $2040

8.0 Sold Dec 2017 for $2000

7.5 Sold August 2019 for $2520

6.5 Sold Nov 2019 for $1680

6.5 Sold Feb 2019 for $2000

6.0 Sold July 2020 for $1260

6.0 Sold June 2020 for $1680

ComicLink

9.4 Sold May 2019 for $6200

Chamber of Chills 23 (Harvey, 1954) - This is the infamous and scarce Lee Elias "Zombie Kiss" cover. It's a coveted book.

Heritage Auctions

5.5 Sold March 2020 for $2640

7.0 CBCS Sold March 2017 for $3346

8.5 Sold Jan 2017 for $4541

Comic Connect

6.0 Sold March 2019 for $3913

The current 85 points assigned for a 6.0 by CGC seems like an egregious error.

Cheers,
Nathan

Scores updated. Please note that the Chamber of Chills score that you are referring to is from #3 (23) which is closely accurate. I did boost the actual #23 significantly as well. Thank you

Hello Matt,

Please take a look at the Atlas issue of Mystery Tales #19. Right now it is equivalent in points to issues above and below it.

This issue is currently selling for extremely higher prices due too it’s fantastic zombie cover. Low grade copies in 2.0, 3.0, etc. are selling for $1000 to $2000. Current point value, less than 100, are obviously way too low. A points adjustment of at least X10 is called for imo.

Thanks

John T.

Score increased. Thank you

Anybody else think the TMNT Volume 1 set could use a facelift with the point values of certain books and particular printings in 2020?

With the sales of #1,1st & 2nd print especially, need some tweaking of their algorithm. (6th print also to be looked into, imho at least)
The 2nd printings of #4, #4 Manufacturing Error, #5, #6 and #7 all could stand for some updating.

If individuals don’t see merit in any of the books I spoke of - no worries at all. I just needed to throw it out there to hear what TMNT collectors think and than obviously your opinion Matt, with the current points correlating with the books nowadays.

Best,
Eric

Hello Eric,

I have made the updates that you specifically mentioned in your post. It is not feasible to research and update every book in every set so I stuck with the highlighted ones. Please let me know if there are any other outliers that need to be addressed. Thank you

New Mutants #87 - Todd McFarlane cover, current point value in 9.8 is 176. GPA for this book in 9.8 is $413 (57 sold in last 90 days).

Spider-man #1(1990) - both Platinum and Gold UPC. Both sell for about 4 times their respective point value in 9.8.

Thanks!

Scores increased. Thank you

Hi Matt @Matt G

Cry for Dawn #5 2nd print - seems this book is significantly undervalued in registry

9.8 went for $2,000: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264861292033

9.6 went for $500: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264816057261

9.2 also just sold as well (https://www.ebay.com/itm/264816154071)

Score Updated. Thank you

Hello, I have a question concerning Swamp Thing (1982) #20. The point value for a 9.6 universal is 225 yet the Canadian price variant point value is only 100 in 9.6. The CPV is over 20 times as rare and sells for a significant premium. Please advise.

Thanks!

I have increased the CPV and decreased the standard issue as sales are actually lower than expected. Please note that the CPV sales are not as common which is why this was not changed before. Thank you

Hey Matt,

I'd like to revisit Marvel Team-Up #1.  In the past, I have focused on the sale of a 9.8 copy from 2008.  I believe this is why the points for the 9.8 won't adjust past 2,000.  Below, I have given the last four sales of MTU 1 CGC 9.6 as documented by GPA.  Please reconsider the point value of the ever scarce MTU 1 across the board.

Marvel Team-Up 1

June 26, 2018 - CGC 9.6 ($2,275.00)

October 16, 2018 - CGC 9.6 ($2,125.00)

August 10, 2019 - CGC 9.6 ($2,650.00)

November 14, 2019 - CGC 9.6 ($2,425.00)

Score slightly increased. Please note that we use a scoring algorithm which means that changing one score in a specific grade will affect all other scores. To ensure that the other scores are not out of whack, I must carefully consider each increase. Some of the 9.8 sales you listed are a bit older/scarce or do not fall in line with the lower grade sales so I am not able to make changes.

My next installment of Marvel Team-Up requests: 51-75

Issue  current pts   Last sale     Average cost

51            56                Last sale in Jun 2018 was for $100 Selling for $28 in 9.6 so no increase due to above explanation.

55            80                2019 avg - $411 (three sold)

56            56                 Last sale in Oct 2018 was for $225

68            72                  Average of last two sales is $135

69            72                  Last sale in July 2020 was for $140

74            48                  Last sale November 2019 was for $200

75            56                  Last two sales averaged to be $102 (I just purchased mine from ComicLink for $100 https://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch_adv.asp%3Fall%3Dy%26TITLE%3DMarvel%2BTeam-Up%26TITLEOPT%3DALL%26ISSUE%3D%26Condition%3D09.8%26ConditionTo%3D10.0%26CGC%3DYES%26CensusRank%3D%26SearchPageQuality%3DWhite%2BPages%26Pedigree%3D%26PRICEF%3D%26PRICET%3D%26DESCRIPTION%3D%26DESCRIPTIONOPT%3DALL%26SearchRemarks%3D%26SearchCGC%3D%26EXCLUDE%3D%26CATEGORIES%3D-1%26WCATEGORIES%3D-1%26SORT%3DCATEG%26_where_forsale%3Dy%26_where_auctions%3Dy%26x%3D31%26y%3D16%26where_forsale%3Dy&id=1421054)

Yet again, thanks for any and all considerations to score adjustments.  I respect what you do tremendously.

Many thanks!!

I was hoping for some feedback on the DC Whitman Variant set...

I recently added Action Comics #508 Whitman variant in CGC 9.0 to my set. This is a very rare book that sells for hundreds of dollars in high grade, and CGC 9.0 is the highest grade it has ever received. Yet the registry gave me 5 points for the book...

I know part of this is because it is scarce... there are only 3 graded copies of this issue, for example. Because this is scarce and thinly traded, does that mean that CGC is not able to assign more points to these kinds of books? I ask this in the context of Action #508 specifically, but am curious about how this applies to the whole set of DC Whitmans more generally.

Thanks for any insights you can offer...

Due to the lack of recent sales we went with the default scoring value of this book. There was a sale in August of 2020 so I used that sale to update the score.

This is a valid request and I second it. I believe the last point review of TMNT was back in 2014 somewhere...

And I was thoroughly overruled!  lol  Though to be fair, the number of people collecting these books back then seemed much smaller than what it is today.  Back then, it felt like I was the only one submitting these.  :preach:

However, in the years since we have seen more sales of these books and a little bit less of a homogenous pricing curve for issues outside of the first 6 first prints.  I'd also support a review of the scores of TMNT volume 1 and would be happy to give input if CGC felt open to it.

This is not a score fix request, but I don't think it's worth starting a whole new topic just because of one little data error.

Set Type: Strange Worlds (Marvel)

"Strange Worlds 5" is missing "Strange Worlds 5" in its "Comic Competing" description.

Thanx

This may have been fixed via a previous request as I do not see any issues with the displaying of this book. Please send me a PM if I am incorrect. Thank you

Almost exactly a month since my post of some TMNT books needing a well deserved facelift.

I will alter my request to: ALL TMNT Volume 1 books (ALL printings, variants, editions) are in dire need of more than a facelift.....appears full body modification is in order for TMNT 2020 lol

I updated the scores per your previous request. Please provide any specific books that are grossly under valued. Please note, per the thread instructions, that we ask collectors avoid a request to have all books in a set upgraded. We want to stick to the ones that are grossly underdeclared as it is an impossible task monitor and upgrade every book. Thank you

Hey Matt!

Way back in March of 2019 I requested to get the Walking Dead #2 Second Print a score bump as it's ultra rare and sells for just as much (if not more) than the first print does when it comes to market.  Molly asked me to provide cert #'s for other copies but then she left and other than my cert #, and maybe 2-3 other guys with sets, I never got the chance to do it as you took over not long after.  So can we get a bump of the #2 second print points to match the 1st print scores?

Here is a link to the original request I made a year and a half ago on March 2nd, 2019:

My original request - halfway down the page on page 1 (for increasing Walking Dead #2 second print points)

Also, here is my #2 second print certification # in case it helps you any.  I doubt any past recent sales can be found, but if you need any other TWD guys to chime in to agree with me I'll be happy to put the word out.  Thanks for all you do for us!

Ryan

PS - the cert # on my #2 second print is #1035000002

Score updated. Thank you

Can you please look at the score to Atlas Showgirls and DC's Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer? Some of these books have sold for some high values and the scores (especially on the Showgirls) are very low even for high grade issues.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

This is the first time I have tried to fix a score, but here it goes.

These are all Daredevil first appearances:

Daredevil 254: First appearance of Typhoid Mary:

Scores updated as requested. I updated the standard, variant, dodson and second printing for v2 #111. Please feel free to create another request with any other grossly under valued books. Thank you

image.thumb.png.09f782c1b7cb586415b7159b0e23a86c.png

This is a key issue being the first appearance of Typhoid mary.

Go Collect have a FMV of $260 with all the sales in the last 6 months over $169image.png.ecd46388c4de8ebe505e54d195c3c4d7.png

My next Daredevil first appearance is in Daredevil V2 #9 with the first appearance of Echo, this has a score of 25, however it has been trading around/above $200 since June and has not sold below a fllor of around $100 all year.image.thumb.png.2dfe77e42caf4ee6bfaad9f488928a87.png

I noticed a lot of the Daredevil v2 scores are quite low.

My final book is Daredevil v2   111, first appearance of Lady Bullseye:

image.thumb.png.6f88fcf0758702d37024a9e8eb2a2c1f.png

This has a gocollect fair market valie of $200 with no sales below $100 for a few years: image.thumb.png.d58adec54aaa311863f4255f993f3c2e.png

These lady's need some attention ! I know keeping on top of this is a life's work. I hope all is well

Regards

Rob
