This picture just does not look right at all.Looks like the comic is laying on top of the case.Plus the bottom of the case looks funky too.

Well, not to start up the old  once again, but definitely a lot more than a Hulk 181 in equivalent CGC 9.6 graded condition.

Same date for a signature. Left is a File copy however, 9.6 is not so it may be an original owner.

Both signatures are slight different.

   

Here is the information on both certification numbers.

  

There are two 9.4 blue labels, three 9.4 SS labels and one 9.6 SS label.

I didn't realize there are more NM copies than last time I checked after I sold my 7.5 copy 8 years ago.

Better late than never.  I see a few spine ticks on the front and back, so this is a fine specimen, but definitely graded on the "Cerebus curve."

This is definitely not unique for the bigger books. There’s a “Bone #1 curve” too.

I once sold a Bone #1 CGC 9.6 soon after I bought it for exactly what I paid because I felt like it was a 9.2 at best and I didn't want it in my collection pretending to be a 9.6.

I never saw this reply 2 years ago.  When I was buying and speaking with Harry it was in the mid 80s, around when Cerebus was on issues in the 30s. He said he and Dave opened to boxes from the printer together and discovered the 400 damaged copies.  Co,planned and received 400 extra issues of issue 2.  Harry is no longer with us, and sadly, most of that young Dave isn’t either.  I watch his weekly videos every now and then, and I think he’s developed Stan Lee marketing memory loss.  I’ll stick with Harry’s contemporaneous recollection of what happened.

Cerebus #2 has quite the grading curve too. I can't even count the number of spine ticks and other defects on this 9.0.

Well, it should be pointed out that it's pretty well common knowledge that the entire 2,000 print run of Cerebus 1 was fraught with production and distribution related issues that resulted in spine ticks on the cover of this issue.  

Bad enough that when Sim himself went through the entire print run to pull the best copies for his own personal collection, all he could managed to find were copies that graded out into the low 9's, with only a very small handful being able to score as high as a CGC 9.4 grade.  Contrast that with a Bone 1 or an Albedo 2 which already have either triple digit or near triple digit copies (and counting) graded and slabbed in CGC 9.4 and above.  

If anything, I would have to say that the Cerebus 1 grading curve is too laser sharp and nowhere near wide enough to reflect the fact that the full 100% of the print run arrived at the stores already in "damaged" condition with spine ticks prevalent on all of the books to varying degrees.  Contrast that with the early SA Marvel keys whereby the overwhelming proportion of their print run arrived to the stores in perfect NM+ condition, and yet CGC gives a "pass" to these books even if they have Marvel chipping on them.

Agreed, although its hard or impossible to differentiate spine ticks from manufacture vs spine ticks from wear.   Marvel chipping from dull cutter blades is obviously from the time of manufacture.

Harry was a good guy.  I was at his house buying Cerebus 1-10 just 3 days before he passed away.
