Savage Tales Club 2 2

Throughout the 80s and 90s I searched for a high grade copy of Savage Tales #1 to no avail. I bought a 9.0 in the early 2000s. Finally, a 9.6 fell into my lap a couple of months ago when I wasn't even trying.

Anyway, post 'em if you've got 'em. I'd love to see the other covers in this run.

My copy is quite nice, other than one slight flaw...

To me, ST began and ended with Conan.  I've little interest in the Ka-Zar issues, but I do have the run.  I have the Annual somewhere too, but too lazy to dig it out.

Yes.  It is a gloriously violent and raw story.  Probably the most extreme story Howard ever written and my personal favorite. 

 

Does anyone know why it hasn't been adapted ever since?  Tower of the Elephant and others have be redone over and over again, but Red Nails has only been done once and this Smith version has been reprinted to the point of ridiculousness.  As good as this original is, I'd like to see a refreshed take.

I don't think anybody would disagree that the Thomas/ Smith adaptation was the masterpiece of their work on Conan.  I imagine most creators would be intimidated trying to bring something new to the table on this story  But you're right, it would be interesting to see somebody else take this one on.  Here's one other version, the cover to the original publication of the story in Weird Tales.  (The story ran three issues, was only on the cover of the first, and I only have the first two of the three:)
