I was 11 when this came out and remember thinking JOH was such a great character. Such great stories (and nice copy!) :cloud9:

I am not really a Hulk fan/collector but these are some cool covers. There is something about Bronze Age marvel that just does it for me. Especially between 1975-1980. The covers tell a story and the characters that were introduced are still huge (Wolverine, punisher, moon knight, etc.).

The comics of my childhood. Working on 102-340 run. 82 issues to go. Also collect random 9.8 slabs and the Masterworks books.

I was able to nab a copy of Masterworks #9 for just $18.75 at a Half Price Books early this year.  Not bad for a $75 book...

It wasn’t until I got older I realized Gambit was loosely based on him

Lol, I'm just realizing that now!

The earliest covers in the run are really striking.

Hulk 197 was the first new Hulk comic I picked up off a spinner rack. My dad was a sanitation worker and would bring home boxes of old comics others had thrown out. having a book that had that super shiny gloss and fresh smell was almost magical.

Great story, Joe.  Now I understand why you love Hulk 197 so much.

Hulk 153 was the first issue I bought off the rack, starting a four year run of reading and collecting every issue.  This was my original copy:

They almost look modern. Also interesting that the logo worked into the art of 109 would later become the long running logo from 131 and throughout the 80s.
